If doing air combos is tricky, you can also equip certain weapons to keep yourself protected. Later on in the game you will find these gauntlet weapons called Durga. They have 2 special elemental powers: lightning and fire. When you have these gauntlets with the fire active, you'll be immune to the enemy's flames.
And as Starbug pointed out, you can use Kulshedra (the whip) to hit the enemies from a distance. Wicked weaves (giant hands and feet) also help you keep a distance from the enemy. If you haven't already, purchase the Tetsuzanko/Heel Stomp ability. These moves allow you to summon wicked weaves instantly at the cost of a few magic orbs. Super helpful for keeping enemies away instantly.
WOW thanks!! Did not know that. Just recently started to master launching and juggling baddies. Shall keep this tip in mind.
