Can't Launch Game. Help?
I've owned this game for a while but I just now decided to get around to playing it. Only problem is, I can't get it to launch. Running the game briefly opens a white window, then immediately closes it and nothing else.

I tried Googling my issue first, and the only thing I found was this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/460790/discussions/0/2592234299545573007/

From his description, this guy seems to have had the same problem as me, but I've been trying the fixes suggested in the thread and none of them are working for me.

1. First I tried verifying the integrity of the game files as well as running the game as Administrator and simply restarting my computer, just to get the obvious stuff out of the way. No change.
2. I tried installing Visual C++ Redistributable Packages from the link provided in the thread. I couldn't do so, as I was promptly informed by my computer that it was already installed.
3. I tried launching the game in WIndows 7 Compatibility Mode. No change.
4. I moved the game directory out of the Steam folder and directly into my D: Drive. No change. (Steam is installed on my C: Drive but I have a D: Drive where I keep my games stored. I've had no issues with this setup before, but could that be it? I'd prefer to not have to start saving games to C:.)
5. I tried closing Steam and deleting my appcache folder. No change.
6. The thing that actually worked for the guy, uninstalling a conflicting program called TrackBallWorks, isn't an option as I don't have that program.

Is there anything else you guys can think of that might be causing my issue?

try the following:

1) Make sure that whatever antivirus software you are using isn't preventing the game from modifying the Documents folder (whitelist if needed), if you are using windows defender ensure that also controlled folder access ransomware protection isn't preventing it either
try the game again

2) if using windows 10, try disabling full screen optimisations - this is in the same place as windows 7 compatibility mode

3) Try deleting the system config file, which is Documents\Bayonetta\system_data
run the game again to let it recreate the file. - sometimes the game chooses settings that aren't the best
try again

if that doesn't work, list your pc specs and also what resolution you are attempting to play the game at.

1. I don't think this is the case, though if we're being completely honest I don't really know how to check. I tried Googling it, but only found answers relevant to C+ programming on StackOverflow? I use Webroot, by the way. I'm sorry, I'm not the most technology-inclined person.

2. This didn't change anything.

3. Okay, so I'm running into a problem here. I couldn't find any Bayonetta-related folder whatsoever in my Documents directory, and I couldn't find system_data in the Bayonetta files in my steamapps. So if that's supposed to exist, this might be where the problem is.

Okay, my specs are:

CPU: Intel i5-8600k @ 3.60 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
Motherboard: MSI B360 Gaming Plus
RAM: 16.0 GB

I think that's everything. Like I said, I'm not very technology-inclined, so I had to hunt down all this information. I actually had to dig up the box the Motherboard came in for that. Please tell me if I listed anything wrong.

I have no idea what resolution I'm trying to run Bayonetta at. I haven't been able to open the game to modify the video settings, so... default? My display resolution is 1920 x 1080, if that's relevant.
If the file is not being created, it is possible that your antivirus is indeed blocking the game. It's not an unknown thing, a lot of games can stop working due to antivirus programs. You could test it by temporarily closing the antivirus down and then running the game again.

If it works, you are going to have to find out how to add the game to the antivirus whitelist or exceptions program yourself as it's not an antivirus Im familiar with.

Another thing, you mentioned moving the game to your D drive? How did you do this, did you use steam's in built library functionality to do this, or did you move another way? I would try moving the game back to your steam library with the steam install location and try again. If the game starts up, you should be able to move it back to D

Disabling my antivirus didn't produce any change.

Okay, so I've got my harddrive C:, and an HDD D:. Steam itself is installed on C:, but my Steam Games are installed on D:, because it has significantly more storage.

So far, I've had no problems with this setup.

One of the suggested fixes in the other thread was to take the Bayonetta files (D: > User > Program Files (x86) > Steam Games > steamapps > common > Bayonetta) and move them so they are directly under D: (D: > Bayonetta). This is what I tried, and it didn't produce any change.

That definitely wouldn't work, I would move the game back into your steam library folder location and verfiy the game files again.

Have you tried running the game with everything else running in the background shutdown? (things like broadcast and recording software, discord etc.)
- right click on all icons in the bottom left and exit them, then try the game again.
(If this works, something is conflicting and is preventing the game from starting up, and you are probably going to do some trial and error to determine what is stopping the game launching.)

Do any errors appear in event viewer after attempting to run the game?
- If you are unsure as to how to do this, - type in event viewer in the search bar and then run it. Then in the left, click windows logs, then click application. At the top of the main window in the list of events, click on any error events logged at the time you last tried to run the game (I would run the game once before opening event viewer). If there is any errors listed, copy and paste here and we can see if there is anything that we can make sense of.
