Crafting doesn't seem to work

Just got the notebook to unlock the crafting menu, tried crafting.. well anything. I added enough ingrediants to highlight a lollipop in the crafting list but.. then there's nothing to do. Using an xbox controller so "A" is conccoct, but that does nothing once the ingredient "meter" is filled. Googling found a lot of posts by people confused by the crafting system (mostly from eight years ago) and via that I saw I'm supposed to spin the right analog stick.. but doing that in my game does nothing.. nor do any of the other buttons seem bound to this function. Thoughts?

It shouldn't be that difficult to understand. Just simply fill the appropriate gauges with the right number of ingredients for your desired lollipop, then rotate the right stick a few times once the prompt appears, and then the item will pop out.

Each ingredient icon on the witch's recipes list are grouped by 5's. So for example, for the green lollipop, it displays 2 Mandragora Root, meaning you need to fill up the Mandragora Root guage up to 10. For the Mega Purple Butterfly Lollipops, it displays 2 Mandragora Root and one Unicorn Horn, so you need to fill up the Root guage up to 10 and one Horn guage with 5 before spinning the stick. And so on and so forth.
