also try the below as well if that doesn't work.
- Navigate to the game exe file, right click, select properties, compatibility, tick run in 640 x 480 screen resolution and try the game again.
edit:
the below sometimes works for some people
in the game folder, there is a folder called "aspect unlock", try apply each of the .reg files in turn (run the game after each one)
out of curiosity, what is your native resolution?
edit: I see it works now?
When you say it doesn't work, what exactly is happening? There are a couple of distinct problems that people seem to have.
To start with though,
Ensure that all dependencies in the _commonredist folder have been run:
right click the game in your library, select properties, local files, browse local files to get to the game folder
1) The game starts with a white screen/blank screen while sound happens in the background (some monitors can display an "out of range" error). Usually this is due to the game defaulting to full screen mode with resolution that the display device is unable to support. This also occurs if a different monitor or tv is used once the configuration has been set. Usually forcing the game into windowed mode is enough to be able to get to the main menu to change the configuration.
- Try alt + enter to force the game into windowed mode
- Set the game to run at 640x480 resolution. Navigate to the game exe.
right click the game in your library, select properties, local files, browse local files.
Right click bayonetta.exe, select properties, select the compatibility tab, tick run in 640x480 screen resolution.
- Within the game folder, there is a folder called aspect unlock, try clicking each of the .reg files in turn (try the game after each one), some people have reported that fixes their problem
- if you are using wnidows 10, try disabling full screen optimisations. (Right click bayonetta.exe, select properties, select the compatibility tab, tick disable full screen optimisations)
2) The game crashes at start up without a window being drawn, or one appears for a split second before disappearing.
This seems to be some sort of permissions issue where the game can't seem to correctly access the My Documents folder to generate the config file. This can be fixed by either of the following:
- If you have multiple hard drives, ensure that the game is installed on the same one that Steam is installed on (right click the game in your library, select properties, local files, move install folder)
- ensure that anything like one drive/gdrive or any backup software like that is disabled.
- Some antivirus software a setting called controlled folder access/protected folder access (eg windows defender has controlled folder access), does temporarily disabling it allow the game to create the required config files?
- Try running steam and the game as admin. (I personally advise against it, as you will usually need to continue this in the future)
