Cancelling witch walk while using controller?

I'm at the introduction to witch walk part near the start of the game where you use witch walk to walk on the walks/ceilings. The tutorial says to press LS while jumping to cancel the witch walk. I've tried moving the LS in all sorts of ways while in midair or while pressing A to jump. It doesn't cancel witch walk.

The keyboard instruction does work though. I can press F while in midair to cancel witch walk.

Am I missing something or is this control botched for the controller?

EDIT: I solved my own problem. Apparently besides moving the LS, you can actually press it down into the the pad. That cancels witch walk. I'm a newbie to controllers. I never knew this button press existed!
