Anybody beat the game the first time on Normal with all pure platinum medals?
As the title says. Just curious. No items, accessories, weapons from future chapters can be used.

Has anybody been able to do that?

Jeez, that would sound like a miracle to me.

Getting to the end of a chapter to only get a gold or platinum on the final or next to final verse, and then having to start the chapter all over as a result, is the biggest hurdle honestly.
That's true. There's no option to "restart from the last checkpoint", either. So, you're right, and that wouldn't be counted as cheating by me LOL. It's very very hard to do this, and one small mistake can ruin everything, and people make mistakes - the chapters are long.
I'm too bad to attempt this. But I will try my best :) Thank you for the reply.

It's possible to get a Pure Platinum playing the game the first time around, but it's not exactly a recommended thing to do, since earning such a score requires absolute knowledge of the game's mechanics and score system. Hideki Kamiya, the director of this game, designs his games in such a way where the first playthrough is experienced more as a tutorial and the real game begins on the second playthrough.

I was able to get a platinum rank on my first playthrough on the PC, but that's only because I've been playing the game for about 8 years or so now.

That makes sense, but I was wondering if the first playthrough with pure plat ranks would be more interesting to watch. By the end of the first playthrough, you should have obtained all powerful weapon, items, accessories that you can rely on, which I think actually make some walkthroughs less interesting, but rather confusing to watch. On the other hand, during the first walkthrough, in which you don't have all those powerful items, you must rely heavily on your combo, your perfect evade, etc., which in my opinion is what makes a hardcore video game a pleasure to watch.

Thanks for the reply, bro!

Well, it does sound like an exciting challenge. I might be able to attempt it, though I will admit I'm nothing without my Moon of Maha-Kalaa.

Hahaha true Moon of Maha-Kalaa is the most useful item, while in the meantime it wouldn't make the battles boring to watch (unlike other items whose names I forgot, the one that automatically triggers Witch Time, the one that blocks damage, etc.), since it also requires skill, especially the perfect parry. I personally prefer perfect evade to Moon of Maha-Kalaa, though I have to admit it is becoming more and more useful as I familiarize myself with it.

It's funny. I was just playing Bayonetta earlier, using just Scarborough Fair with no equipments on normal. Game feels super easy only because I'm acustomed to playing the game on NSIC difficulty. I'm feeling a little more daring. I want to try and do a pistol only run instead. I ran through the first 5 chapters, and it's actually possible to do it, though I can't make any promises that it can be a Pure Platinum run. I can definitely get a Platinum rank overall though.

The way I have it set up is this: pistol only, no items, no accessories and I have access to all my techniques because I seriously need to air dodge and perform stilletos in order to stay mobile. Perhaps later this week I'll start recording a run. This wll be a side project though, so don't expect me to stay active. I have a busy life overall and the only reason I'm posting this now is because I'm on company vacation lol

I did notice in my practice pistol run that there are certain events where Bayonetta gets Scarborough Fair no matter what, so I have control over that. Also, some Alfheims require you to defeat enemies using only wicked weaves, which the pistols can't summon. These will be the only exceptions where I have to switch to SF.

That's cool! Yes I agree that Platinum award at the end of each chapter is not extremely hard to get, but pure plat is really a headache, especially since there's no option to restart a battle after the score comes out - if you ruin one battle and get a plat instead of pure plat, you start over, not to mention that some battles in the first playthrough require an insane amount of combo points. I have just platinum-ed the first four chapters and the prologue, and after some grinding I got prologue, chapter 2 and chapter 4 pure platinum-ed, on the first playthrough of course, no accessories but I used Shuraba after the point where you should get it.

I'm currently playing on Xbox one console, and what I had in mind was to make a guide for first time players of this game, because I absolutely love this game though I'm not a long-term experienced player like you are, and also because a lot of first time players have problem with the battles and get low ranks (one of my friend actually told me he couldn't beat the game...). There is just too little information about the game mechanics in the tutorials for first time players. I think the guide, if I could ever make it, should help people better beat the game without getting too frustrated. After all, we have to admit this is not an easy game, compared to other new games that we now have.

I'm looking forward to seeing your project! But no pressure, just saying :D

And it's funny you mention about creating a guide, because I'm in the middle of making one myself. It's a guide about how to defeat Grace and Glory and other tough enemies. It breaks down the combat into a more simple explanation (and I have short videos demonstrating the importance of combo extension). The problem is, I haven't had time to finish it. It's a been a slow process overall because I go over a lot of details in each chapter.
