Mechanics and gameplay are pretty much the most important thing to core fans of this genre.
DmC was a horrible bastardization and a huge downgrate to what has been mechanically achieved in DMC4. I care very little for the story, so my issues with DmC do not come from that.
God of War hardly even compares to weaker titles like Metal Gear Rising(still a very fun game) Saying that bayonetta is uninspired compared to GOW is just nonsense.
then again, it was the 2nd in the series to be nothing but a linear tunnel simulator. 4 established the new gameplay mode of "there is no exploration. you just go forward".
Yes the gameplay outside of combat mechanics had issues. The backtracking was excessive the level design was pretty bad. They should have just made Dante and Nero have seperate campaigns.
Look I get it you like the essentially streamlined easy automatic version of the combat mechanics that borrows elements from the massive PS3 hit Heavenly Sword. Yeah sure you don't want to put any effort into the combat systems and like how the game does combos practically for you.
That doesn't change that DMC4 Dante was way more complex when it came to combat mechanics. It's not just slower DMC3 Dante. He can use all his wepaons and and styles which can be utilized during combos. Which is huge and a complete game changer to how dante played in 3
DMC4 Dante was designed with players like this in mind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SopZtjWzl18
DmC was designed for newbies. So everyone could pull off that cute little combo with mundance mechanics the require zero effort, but also limits the potential of the character. Not to mention the travesty that is Devil Trigger in that game.
