Disable combo automation?

Is it possible to disable the combo automation that occurs at lower difficulty levels? I just want slightly less of a pain in the ass, not to have combat simplified down to mashing a single button to attack ad infinitum.

No... Platinum always seem to have problems balancing the difficulty levels.

There is a doll that is what gives you automatic combos
Just unequip that. took me a little bit to figure that out the first time.

That's just it: this is the first time I've had an issue like this with a Platinum game. I get it's a relatively old title for them, but this is far more asinine than I ever would have expected from them.

This game was directed by Hideki Kamiya, he is infamous both for making good games and having no sympathy for people who don't 100% agree with his opinions. Originally this game didn't even let you rebind the controls!
