Witch time tutorial

I'm doing a playthrough with Jeanne, and no matter what I do in the witch time tutorial it always fails. I'm stuck doing it over and over as it seems you can't get out of the tutorial until you complete it.

Has anyone else run into this?

Since the only way to trigger Witch Time with Jeanne (minus the WT trinket) is to go into the moth form, you need to dodge just as you're about to take damage, i.e. when the rose is about to appear. The timing is more strict than with normal dodges, so take note of both visual and sound cues.

I believe moth form has to be triggered after you get hit. You'll notice that when you get hit your character and the attacker will freeze for just a few frames, and that's your window to hit dodge and 'undo' the damage. I believe the same rule applies for doing a full parry with the Mahaa-Kalaa

It's tricky for sure, but you do get a feel for it.

Okay. Guess I need to unlearn the way I've been doing it for the last 20 hours with Bayonetta...

Yeah, she has some slight but noticable tweaks to her playstyle.

Fortunately, she can also keep dodging forever, so there's that.

Her dodging is exactly like using Bayonetta's Bat Within technique.
It's also advisable to try and practice using the Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa accessory for more cool defense options.

The Moon is really awesome. You'll even counter stuff on accident XD

Another - albeit less optimal - accesory would be Selene's Light, though that one requires you to get hit and eats magic.

Perfect Parries with the moon actually provide a larger window of witch-time than other sources, not sure if it applies to Jeanne thougt.

It does, so perfect blocks with Jeanne seem like a better option than dodges.
