Tips for getting pure platinum trophies?
I'm not even sure what weapons I should be using to rack up some combo points.

Use Gaze of Despair (more aggressive enemies, more points, but more difficult)
Pick weapons you are comfortable with, use the guns to extend your combo
Panther Within to go from enemy to enemy before the timer runs out
DO NOT TAKE DAMAGE

If all else fails, you can "cheat" the game by exiting to title screen in chapters. This will allow you to continue from the last verse you completed if you screwed up.

The weapons aren't so important, just use what you feel comfortable with and you'll do fine.Yeah some are better than others and some moves do better than others but for now you want to focus on the basics.

1) Never let the combo meter drop. Your combo score isn't based on quality or variety it's all about maintaining your combo. You can use Pulleys Butterfly to give you some breathing space for getting hit but the most important thing is to use your handguns to maintain the combo when enemies are out of range.

2) Combo points score double for taunted enemies, and double during witch time. You can either use the taunt or Gaze of Despair and your score will skyrocket.

3) Watch out for moves that do huge damage and low amounts of hits. This is generally less important but you can mess yourself up using certain super high damage moves like the Sword charge attack.

4) If you're after pure platinum on the max difficulty you'll need to learn how to use the Moon of Mahaa Kalaa. Your defense without that are extremely limited.

Weapons can be important, since weaker ones keep enemies alive for longer, which makes it easier to farm points.

The kilgore switch glitch racks up a lot of combo points...

Not necessarily. If anything, weak weapons have a higher tendency to produce diminishing returns much more quickly and doesn't quite give you a good boost in the multiplier. The more damaging weapons are far more useful for boosting up the multiplier fast, especially when you mix in wicked weaves and angel weapons. Not to discredit using weak weapons though, as it ultimately boils down to how you want to play. Just make sure you don't stop attacking enemies. There's a 4 second period where if you don't damage enemies, the score will restart at 0, lowering your chances of getting a good score. There are plenty of ways of making sure the combo score doesn't reset. You can pause the timer by taunting and charging the shuraba and you can hurt enemies from a distance with your weak pistol (X) to start the timer again. You can also shoot out a barrage of bullets by simply holding your attack button (Y and B) while dodging. Any tiny attack you do will keep that timer reseting.

Broken butterfly and keep your combos going. If you mess up more then two times you might as well exit the game back to the main menu to continue from the beginning. Trying to reset the Broken Butterfly effect is a pain and you'll most likely lose your combo or take damage which is definite no no. My advise is to go for the Pole Dancer trophies for every level first while doing your best to improve. Pure Platnum is a headache for any level short of bosses. Honestly your better off buying whatever unlocks you want from the telephone booth in chapter 2.
