the free dlc adds a bunch of optional bosses too.
if you want to make it a bit harder there are scouts that can make the mobs harder.
or you could abstain for combat a bit so the mobs outlvl you :P
Otherwise if you don't grind at all, get rekt.
Also, DLC equipments are OP, consider this if you want challenge
Also when DLC characters become available they make it so much easier, so you can start to use them later for more challenge, or not get them at all.
There are parts where it becomes tough then just goes down to easy then spikes up again and so on.
The end of Channel Space in Heart Dimension for example; reaching it is easy peasy even as I run around for items and kill whatever gets in my way, but as soon as I reach the end where I have to fight the bosses I've had some first-turn-party-wiping moments after a few retries. That was the only time I've kind of been forced to grind a few levels and even then it was at least barely enough to beat one boss in order for the rest of its team to be easier to fight. I didn't really want to grind anymore so I kind of prayed that what I gained was enough.
And first fights in Blanc+Sisters arc are totally insane.
Absolutely no problems with other arcs.
