Besides, the games do have a defined order, but it's not all that significant.
Technically Cyberdimendion 4 Goddesses Online is a Sequel that takes place after the events of Megadimension Neptunia VII inside the MMORPG of 4 Goddesses Online.

May I ask if you have played the Rebirth games? You did not state that and if you have only played VII then you have missed A LOT. In my opinion the story of VII really sucks for the most part, because it retcons some of the established or implied rules of their universe from RB2 and 3. Also it completely ditches one of the main characters of RB 3 and most of the supporting cast.
VII gameplay and graphics wise is certainly the best, though they never fixed some of the bugs. But if you have not played Rebirth 1 - 3, I can highly recommend those as they came before VII. Do note that Rebirth 1 is a different cannon. After theyd made it, they made significant changes to the world with the second game and the third game and VII follow the events of RB2.... although like I said... VII retcons some things im certainly unhappy with and even relegates some important and loved characters to "someone i used to know but i cant bother meantioning her more than just like this".
Anywho. If you have already played RB trilogy then maybe you should give 4GO a shot. And if you want what is in my opinion the best spin-off and you like strategy rpgs, then maybe try Hyperdimenion Noire. It has quite a long campaign and introduces a slew of new characters.
My biggest gripe with it is there are no CPU Candidates/little sisters. And Noire's character is a bit in overdrive for most of the game, which is a tad eh.... I like her more in the main games. Still, very enjoyable game imo.
VII misses some more marks too, it couldve been a relative masterpiece, but unfortuantely for me it isnt. I do like how it plays quite a bit and it has a lot to do and some interesting things like city development, but... it could have been way better imo.
Not as bad as Sega Hard Girls though. That feels like a Planteptune game instead of a Neptunia game, with the 'main four' Goddesses not even being there. Well, 3 out of the 4.
2 isn't bad either, just the weakest in the series overall (IMHO, of course).
