Ghosts
What are they for, apart from scouting? Seems like the only useful ghost is the first one to grab some crates, creating any more is just wasting resources that could've bought a grunt squad or jackals. Has anyone ever been able to effectively use these pieces of tissue? They always just get insta-gibbed by any unit when I train them.

The only thing that I've ever seen ghosts do effectively (fully upgraded) is dodge a few cobra shots and maybe some RPGs or grenades. So, no. They are basically useless.

The ghosts are not meant to be very useful units. Designed to be fast scouts that collect crates, like the Warthog. But, the warthog can be much more useful thanks to the guass cannon. But even they drop off in a long match

That's kinda my point though. Warthogs can have use outside of collecting crates but ghosts just seem totally useless. The only unit they can win against is another ghost.

And a brute chopper. They're not meant to be long term units.

Well you could argue the usefulness of choppers and warthogs vs. air units and some infantry, even a few vehicles. There are some set ups that I use long term with warthogs, never tried with choppers, but it's a possibilty. Very good against air units, but even if you could find an actual use for ghosts, they take up too much room for how small they are and I don't see them pairing well with anything.

Ghosts are terrible against air. And Ghosts are whole point of this topic, not Warthogs or choppers. Chopper are good at killing one thing. Stock hornets and pelicans. Even then they need to be upgraded. Infantry, unless you're talking about snipers, jackels and flamers. Then no, they'le just ability you and you die

They are completely useless just like a large number of the other units in the game.

I was just adding on to what you said about the warthogs and choppers. And yes, ghosts are terrible against air, I was referring to the warthogs and choppers. As for the infantry, I did say "some" infantry and vehicles as in marines, jackals, flamethrowers, cyclops, locusts, GHOSTS, wraiths, etc. But to get back to the original question, just forget that ghosts are even included in the game. The only point to even build a factory is maybe to build locusts. They should have just put ghosts and choppers in the main structure and put the scarab in the factory.

It would help to counter Scarab rushes since you can't just go 6 warhouses and 1 temple. But still, I like the way the system is now, makes it easier on the AI and I can change it if I wanted too

Would it be worth buffing the ghosts a little? Maybe just extra damage against anti-infantry infantry, for example, so that they can exist specifically to counter those threats. Although Jackal snipers are a pretty hard counter to flamethrowers anyway because of the range difference.

There's a decent amount of units that need buffs in this game. Ghosts, warthogs, choppers, gremlins, wraiths. I mean the list goes on but I think ensemble did a pretty good job of balancing the units for the most part when the game released. There's a lot of units in this game that are pretty useless unless you combine them with something else and have a specific role for them. There's a couple units that should be reworked a little like the locust. They deal a massive amount of damage to a base but have next to no health and aren't very useful against almost any unit. But for sure they should buff the scout units, if you've ever played any of the fps's any of those would trash infantry, air and a decent amount of vehicles, I guess except for the ghost on vehicles.

And I make that point about the scarab because it would the same for the UNSC, their "uber" unit is in the air pad, so why not put the covenents in a building specifically for that vehicle type too?

A Scarab is not the be all and end all of the game a properly co-ordinated attack on a scarab renders it useless. I've seen 4 scarabs in close quarters get absolutly decemated in MP and have been on the receiving end of insta scarab deaths also. It would need a buff if it was in its own building.

If anyone is saving for a scarab in a MP match they should probably try countering whats on the field first unless of course the team they are up against is terrible.


Ghosts are good for scouting/tainting and thats about all.

Of course scarabs are garbage, I was just saying that if the UNSC's "uber" unit is in the air pad, why not put the Covenant's in the Factory? It would make sense. I mean it's fine the way it is now, it's not a game breaking feature or anything.

I feel like swapping the scarab and the ghost/chopper locations around would be better. Like how unsc scouts are in the command centre.

Ps there is an upgrade in the game files never used that times damage and health of the scarab by 1.95

Was the upgrade completed and never implemented or is it unfinished?
