Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade

Better than Soul Storm?
I kind of have just gotten into the Warhammer Universe and I was wondering if I should buy Dark Crusade or SoulStorm. When I went to the Soulstorm store page some people in their reviews said that it wasn't as good as the Dark Crusade.

There both alright.Soulstorm has a couple of more races like sisters of battle and dark eldar as well as all the races of dark crusade. They play the exact same and they both have decent mods for them if you play them modded that is.There campaigns are different there set on different planets. You should look up gameplay of each game on youtubehttp://www.youtube.com/orkwarlord2

Dark Crusade is by far the best expansion pack to Dawn of War. I would also recommend you read up on the lore it is fascinating. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page#.UrZo_7R1Ngo

Those are two sites you can use to read up on the lore. Also I created a guide for the different races in this game which can be found here. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=206430557

You should look online for gameplay to get a better idea of both, but here's a few tidbits:

They're both good, but Dark Crusade is much better than Soulstorm. Soulstorm has two additional races (Sisters of Battle and the Dark Eldar) and a bunch of extra maps. However, the two new races can be somewhat unbalanced (i.e. the dark eldar are meant to attack in lightning quick strikes and be gone or have devastated the enemy before the enemy can retaliate, but they can endure almost as much punishment as some of the other "tank" race's units while dealing out impressive damage). Additionally, the singleplayer dialogue is pretty laughable and your bases aren't maintained after you conquer an area. This last detail can make the game very repetitive when it comes to defense missions as you have to rebuild pretty much everything. However, the campaign in Soulstorm is quite long as you fight across one or two planets and its moons and the stronghold missions are a really fun challenge.

Dark Crusade however, is generally better in all respects when compared to Soulstorm (in my opinion at least); campaign dialogue isn't bad, singleplayer is still lengthy and the stronghold maps are really well done, and the best part is once you conquer a province you base(s) remain once the match is done unless you lose them in a defense mission (this reduces the repetitiveness you'll encounter in soulstorm, but you will still have to likely play maps multiple times). The only thing DC doesn't have when compared to SS is few races (DC has 7) and fewer maps even when fully patched.

I would say get DC first, see if you like it, and if you want more then get SS.

Dark Crusade has a much better story in my opinion. I also think the overall campaign was done a lot better than in Soulstorm. SS campaign feels a bit rushed, kinda like they were just trying to pop it out as fast as they could. The two new factions that SS gives are pretty fun though. I've definitely had fun with both games so it may come down to personal preference.

I found that SS had too many plot holes they never specify why the SM Sisters of Battle and IG are fighting eachother in the first place and the campaign itself wasn't written very well.

The Space Marines were fighting the IG because the IG could have potentially been corrupted by chaos, and the Sisters didn't actually care who they fought - their orders were to purge the system of everyone.

I find it hard to believe that they would purge the Adeptus Astartes; Space Marines arent expendable like guardsmen

Tell that to the Lamentors, Knights of Blood, Flame Falcons, Space Wolves, Relictors, or any of the other still-loyal chapters (or ex-chapter in the case of the Flame Falcons - they were wiped out to a man by the Grey Knights) that have gotten on the Inquisition's bad side anyway. :P

The Adepta Sororitas (Sisters of Battle) are closely tied to the Ordo Hereticus (Witch Hunters) of the Inquisition. Perhaps the local inquistor was a bit paranoid that Boreale's strike force had been corrupted?

Even inquisitors themselves aren't safe from the inquisition. Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Darkhammer, a puritan Inquisitor, was declared Excomunicate Traitoris by Inquisitor Valeria, also of the Ordo Xenos and a Xeno Hybris radical, over a rivalry that resulted in the destruction of the Dimensional Forge, a Necrontyr artifact that could generate a null field large enough to protect an entire sector from Chaos.

There are even radicals amoung the inquisition that would challenge the High Lords of Terra on the grounds that they have corrupted and intentionally misinterpreted the Emperor's words for personal gain, though they're few and far between.
