The Tau Commander can infiltrate and fly like the stealthsuits can (when upgraded with the right wargear that is). The Space Marine and Chaos commanders can be upgraded with Melta guns, which is pretty cool. The SM commander can also teleport.
The IG commander is arguably the weakest commander of the collection. His melee claws are slightly better than his ranged attack, so wade in and throw down with him. The IG honor guard unts are very strong overall, as noted above, especially with two Kasrkin squads.
The Space Marine's honor guard squads are mostly single units, which does limit them in prolonged battles. They are best used for rush attacks on enemy bases (not the stronghold region). They come packing missle launchers, plasma guns, and all other upgrade capabilities unlocked for that unit regardless of current tech level. That helps them rush and stomp bases very efficiently. The main issue I have with the Space Marine honor guard units is they need replacing more often.
IT's how I beat necrons in regular fights, just rush the Tomb with the honor guard and some cultists if you're low.
