Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade

Funest races in campaign mode?
So its been a good while since i played dark crusade and soulstorm, but i feel like playing the campaign again. I remember the last times i played i tried orks and necrons, but orks just didn't pack enough punch for my taste and the necrons were agonizingly slooooow. What races do you think guys think are pretty fun to play as?

I think I like the Tau and the Space Marines, personally. The Tau have a fun commander to run around killing bases with, and the honor guard Fire Warriors with their extreme range kill most things without them realizing they are splatting. The Space Marines have Terminators, Dreadnaughts, tanks, and and Deep Strike. Fun times.

Imperial Guard have entire squads of Honor Guard units, including 2 squads of HG Kasrkins. The only drawback is (ironically) their only HG tanks are sentinels and hellhounds.

The Tau Commander can infiltrate and fly like the stealthsuits can (when upgraded with the right wargear that is). The Space Marine and Chaos commanders can be upgraded with Melta guns, which is pretty cool. The SM commander can also teleport.

Yeah iv actually started as Imperial Guards, finding them decently enjoyable, only problem i see is that im not sure what territories to go for first between Necron, chaos, and Space marines. I kinda fund it funny that they surround IG with the 3 factions it seems they would have the most trouble with. Also what would you suggest for wargear on the IG commander, i can't find any info on weather he is best as ranged or melee warrior.

The IG commander is arguably the weakest commander of the collection. His melee claws are slightly better than his ranged attack, so wade in and throw down with him. The IG honor guard unts are very strong overall, as noted above, especially with two Kasrkin squads.

The Space Marine's honor guard squads are mostly single units, which does limit them in prolonged battles. They are best used for rush attacks on enemy bases (not the stronghold region). They come packing missle launchers, plasma guns, and all other upgrade capabilities unlocked for that unit regardless of current tech level. That helps them rush and stomp bases very efficiently. The main issue I have with the Space Marine honor guard units is they need replacing more often.

Give him the bionics wargear so he doesn't get assasinated by invisible units. I know psykers can detect, but you'll want this in case you don't have one nearby.

Bionics? I dont see that in the wargear, do you mean the optics thing that replaces eye?

Yes. It's up to you, of course.

I'm having a great time with Chaos. Eliphas with all of his wargear [except the Daemon Ascension funny enough, it's actually am inor nerf comparatively] can solo any unit in the game [except melee walkers because they're designed to kill anything in melee] and has an absurd amount of health and damage. The chaos honorguards seem underhwleming at first but having a 8 man squad plus a free Defiler that can capture points, fight like hell, have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of regenerating hitpoints, and can roflstomp bases in the first minute of the game is pretty cool.

IT's how I beat necrons in regular fights, just rush the Tomb with the honor guard and some cultists if you're low.

I'd say necrons, but since they are too slow for you, then what about chaos? The only map that i had the most trouble to win as Chaos was Hyperion Peaks. It's the most annoying map in the whole campaign for all races, but for chaos it's real pain in the ass. As IG u get baneblades, as SM u get Landraiders, hell as Necrons u have 2x Restored Monoliths! Chaos get honor guard, and 2 or 3 squads of possessed + lots of Defilers and Predators, if i'm not mistaken. So if u dont rush this map quick, it's impossible to win. (U have to destroy all the buildings, enemy has 3 bases and u cannot build ur own buildings, except for listening posts). You can skip this map of course, but i like to get all the territories, when i'm playing the campaign :D
