basically the games for windows install ordeal takes 5 minutes.
it does a lot that steam does not do however: offline messaging, see where and in which game your friends are.
okay then bye
JUST BECAUSE YOU'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH GFWL, DOESN'T MEAN THAT THAT'S THE CASE FOR EVERYONE ELSE.
It works great for you? Fine. Consider yourself lucky. From personal experience, GFWL works okay for some games, and terribly in others.
Bringing up the GFWL menu is slow (delay). Navigating the menu is slow. Sending messages is slow.
I had to configure it with my firewall and open ports JUST to decrease lag (hours of research and time wasted). I never needed to do this before GFWL.
I've had games freeze and crash just because I pressed "home" to check which friend just came online.
Game crashed because I had just sent a message while another person sent me one at the same time.
My entire BP and PP in SSF4AE was wiped clean (no backup function in case something goes bad with the installed copy, it seems).
I had a tough time getting Batman AA to work with my account. I had to install/uninstall/reinstall GFWL, marketplace, and live-id just to get the CD-key to work. Fun!
And that's just my experience (from what I can recall off the top of my head). I know my way around computers. One person, and all of these problems?
Yeah, GFWL rocks!
I have just spent an hour trying to figure out why I could not login with games for windows live in-game. I could login fine through my browser, but not in-game. I spent time digging into firewall settings, ports on my router, strange error codes and resetting passwords...
Apparently, my password was too strong! For some reason the problem was due to a special character in my password. I had to choose a much weaker and shorter password (there's a character limit as well).
I definitely do not like game 4 windows live. Especially since I planned on playing this from my couch with a controller in hand.
On the upside: I got it working now, auto-login & controller friendly, so I probably won't see it again any time soon.
