Windows 8?

1. Install Steam, download SSF4 AE as per normal.

2. When you first launch SSF4, it will install the Direct X framework 3.5 as well as an old version of the GFWL client. Win 8 may ask to download .net Framework 3.5 - hit yes/OK.

3. Once the preliminary installation steps are completed and you run the game for the first time, the game will crash to a black screen with "An unhandled error occurred (-1)". You will need to alt-tab back to desktop and quit the game from task manager.

4. Navigate to programs and features by right-clicking the bottom-left corner of the screen and clicking "Programs and Features".

5. Uninstall "Microsoft Games for Windows MarketPlace", then "Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable".

6. Visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient to download the latest Games for Windows Live client. If the following link doesn't work anymore, simply Google "Games for Windows Live Marketplace Client".

7. Run the installer.

8. SF4 should now launch successfully.

I had bouht SSF4 AE since it was released in june 2011. My pc is Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit core i5 2500k 3,3 ghz 12 gb ddr 3 1600mhz msi gtx 560 ti twin fronz ii oc 2 gb. Game was woeking perfectly fine. But 1 week ago a virus deleted windows and i lost evrything. So i had to format. I installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit again. I just installed SSF4 AE and also got this error. Now i am trying to follow the stpes you say. So i go to program files and found the GFWL folder. In GFWL folder there are two folders one is Client and the other is Redist. I must unistalled them but where is the unistall button?

Ok i deteted games for windows live market place and redist in the add and remove programs section. Now i downloaded the leatest version of the client from the link you posted and installed it. Then it asked me to download Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5. I downloaded it and when it starts installing it i get a error message before the installation finish. The error message says: Windows Live ID Sign In Assistant Setup ended prematurely. What the problem? While it dosent finish installation? I try it many times and still get this error. Help please i want to play ssf4 ae again!!

@shredder: Apparently it's a Windows Live Sign-in assistant problem. Try to install it via Windows Update, since WF Sign in it's an Internet explorer add-on.

You can also try to install Windows Live Essentials to solve this issue.

you can reply this if you still have the same problem.

Yes, and I wanted to say that your advice worked perfectly and I followed all the instructions in like three minutes. Simple fix and worked fine. Thanks!

I'm still having this problem even after installing Windows Live Essentials and uninstalling / updating Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace. Any suggestions?

Should I have the Games for Marketplace running and installed when I start SF4? I can't really find anything to run as part of that Live Essentials tool install.

Thanks for the help, I can't believe this doesn't work. Thanks Windows 8!

Did this fix your problem? There are others here with the same issue, it will be helpful if you update the first post to say what worked.

I tried every solution given here with no success. somehow I can't get games for marketplace running at all when i install it, it keeps saying that I do not have the sign-in assistant. After downloading and installing it seperately, I get the same pop-up again. The problem lies with GFWL obviously, but I can't find any solution for it.

I had this problem long time ago, the problem was that i disabled GFWL on startup when my pc enters to windows. i just enabled the GFWL assistant on startup and that did it.

To enable it just run or search msconfig and on the startup tab enable it, it will ask you to restart right after.

I'm having a similar problem to the original poster. I followed Fabbio's advice but when I try to install the wllogin_64 files the setup wizard says it has encountered an error. It has done this multiple times and will not install the Windows Live Login Assistant at all. I'm at my wits end trying to figure this stuff out. I'm currently running Windows 7... Every time I try to run SF it simply says Fatal Error...

Any advice?
