PC Controls
I modified my PC controls, and yet it's still hard to play :S

I'm not really sure why. Sometimes I am able to perform the move effectively. Then why I try it a second time, it doesn't work. I don't wanna buy an arcade stick or whatever. Just idk, was wondering what you guys thought about the PC Controls. What your PC controls are, etc. I'm using WASD for movement then u,i,o,p for punches, j,k,l,; for kicks.

And sometimes the moves only work when I'm near the CPU. If I'm farther away, it doesn't work

I have to perform the specific move "two times". For example, I would have to do "down right down right punch" in order for it to make the move. I wouldn't be able to do "down right punch". Is that normal x( ?

First of all, turn on the input display in training mode so you can see how the game is interpreting your commands. Secondly, make sure your keyboard isn't locking up from simultaneous key presses. Many cheaper or non-gaming keyboards can't detect certain combinations of keys. Thirdly, adjust the button configurations to something you're comfortable with and won't lock up the keys. I use the arrow buttons for left, right and down, space for jumping, ASD for punches and ZXC for kicks. Mapping jumps to something you can reach with your thumb is crucial because trying to use both the jump and the down button with the same finger is way too slow and clumsy.

Most importantly, practice. It's completely possible to do any motion needed for any move in the game consistently with a keyboard. I have 3000 PP (or had before I started to experiment with characters I hadn't played before in ranked matches) and I only play with a keyboard despite owning a stick.

I think you should absolutely stick to what Yehat said. Check if your keyboard can detect multiple buttons presses correctly and here's one more thing about SFIV:

SFIV has something called "input leniency", which allows you to perform certain special moves even though you didn't input them 100% correctly. for example shoryuken with ryu should look like this: right,down,down-right + punch. however, you can also get a shoryuken if you press down-right,down,down-right + punch, this is possible because of input leniency. some moves like a hadouken have no input leniency (at least NOT like a shoryuken), so you ABSOLUTELY have to press down,down-right,right + punch. so if you are playing on a keyboard and you aren't that familiar with the special moves, there is a high chance that your input isn't clean.

with this in mind, you should ask yourself whether you aren't inputting correctly or if there is something wrong with the keyboard. go to training mode and train special moves while having the input display on.

you might find yourself inputting alot of stuff incorrectly but still manage (sometimes) to get certain special moves to work because of input leniency.

That's pretty pro. Yeah I got some advice from another very good player. He told me to do what you basically told me. I have a laptop, so keyboard choice is not really an option. I might try using the arrow keys and ASDF and ZXCV for the punches and kicks respectively.

In training I would always be able to pull off the ultra and super, but when I'm in a battle, it never comes out :/

I find that I must press the buttons individually with a certain short time period between in order to make it happen. That being said, in online, you're most likely not giving that short time period to do what you want.

"Hold on a second bro, let me just try to ultra real quick"

All they do is keep mashing you :(

I am not a keyboard player myself, but if you're having trouble getting input right in a match then you most likely haven't played enough to get the inputs right in time. ANYONE can do certain stuff offline in training mode, but that doesn't mean a thing if you can't pull it off in a real match.

this won't be fixed by choosing to buy an arcade stick either...you simply have to play more often for your muscle memory to keep up with the pace of a match. eventually you'll get fast enough to do whatever you want, even on keyboard.
