How does safe jump works ?
Could someone kindly explain, i get the general idea that it's a jumping attack that's safe when blocked. But what if you're against ryu or something with dp. Does it still work?

Yep. When you get the timing right you land right before their actual wakeup. It's like they're trying to punish your jump in but you're already on the ground blocking.

You can't safe jump on a character that has 3 frame (startup) reversal (Ryu,Ken (Ken's medium punch shoryu is 4frame, but i wouldn't risk it, you probably will get reversaled with light or heavy or ex those are 3f). Sagat's tiger uppercut is 4f hence safejump is possible on him.
Please correct me if im wrong if i say that the trick to safejumps lies between the opponent's wakeup frames and your jump landing frames. There is some character specific 3f-safejumps though. btw, which character you main?

I'll correct you then, but just slightly ;)
All of Ryu's dps are 3f on startup, 4f mp and ex is for Ken. Sagat's dp are all 5f.

You got that right though, the neutral landing animation is 3f, so if you do a jumping attack late enough, the closest to the ground, you have time to land and block any reversal attack of 4 frames or more. If they don't do anything, your jumping attack connects, if they reversal, you land and block.
That's how safe jumps work. In SF4, there's a bunch of setups (mainly whiffing normals to "burn" the correct amount of frames so your jump is timed perfectly) to safe jump different reversals.

Oh and yes, there are indeed setups for 3f dp, mainly neutral jump mk at max range (the distance basically adds one or 2 frames to their reversal).

There are also 3f safejumps that involve being on top of their head or crossing them up in such a way that they will end up on the backside of the enemy if they try to Shoryuken, causing it to either whiff or get stuffed.

And just to clarify a bit, there's only tripguard frames when you do a jumping attack. Empty jumps can block immediately on landing.

That's right, I shouldn't have said "neutral animation" but "animation to neutral" I suppose.

And yeah such 3f setups to bait dps exist, they're not really safejumps per say, but the result is the same. Most of these setups can be reversal'ed if autocorrected properly though.

Cammy can safejump 3f reversals,Seth can.A bounch of charakters can.Others have no real safejumps.Gief is pretty easy to reversal,same with Hugo.Just mash DP on Wakeup if they try to crossup you,you get a free punish.mostly.

The trick is the right timing and the distance.For example has Cammy a safejump after her forwardthrow on many charakters,including all Shotos.This move doesn't work against herself,she wakes 1frame earlyer up and can just DP you,DWU makes it to a safejump for her.Same with unblockabels.Cammy has a unblockabel that works only on herself,so in mirror matches only.The reason is her falling timing and her wakeup timing.Same why you should allways quickrise against her,if she doesn't hit with her Divekick after a Combo,she can just jump back and you're in a 50/50 were you have to guess if it hit's frontal or not.And it's a safejump.

Just to correct, Cammy wakes up 1 frame slower, not earlier. Sagat does too, Blanka wakes up 2 frames slower. That's for face-up wake up.
