How to solve lag switching? Do it like other games...
If the player lags, just have them stand there doing nothing. That would eliminate any advantage gained from intentionally lagging the game, and that's how other games do it. For the rare actual lag, it gives the player motivation to fix their client, just like other games. The vast majority of times that I play other games there's zero or close to zero lag that ever affects the game, so if you just have them do no moves and keep the game moving at a normal speed the lag will cease.

You actually think there is more lag switching than actual lag in this game? Wow. I mean. Wow.

You actually suppose that the vast majority of people playing this game are of negligble physical distance from you and on perfect internet connections but are simply cheating, and it is only a minority of players who are far away or on inferior internet?

Really?

Yeah lag switching? Most of the people are actually lagging. I have like 60 meg DL and 6 up and I get huge lag spikes and plenty of unplayable matches. Every other game is fine. Its the game

The timing and situations are pretty conclusive.

Try winning a bit, and note the lag. Then lose on purpose, and the lag goes away, mostly.

Except its not. You can't know that its the player, and not the game or Steam that's causing the lag spikes and the 'lost connection to opponent' or 'opponent has left the match'. You play enough and you see it swings all ways, you are definitely (if you haven't already) going to see the opponent about to beat you and then and the match drop mid ultra animation. You think they'd lag switch themselves out of their win, then? I don't think so.

Cheating is too easy these days .. lag switching has been around a long time and easy to find out how to do it if you have half a brain.

Macros are easy too, and programmable fight sticks are also available on the web.

Basically its just too easy to cheat on PC in general.

Yeah, my roommate has a ps3 and street fighter, maybe I'll try the console and see if the game isn't hacked to smitheeens on there too. Seems like everybody copies the cheaters or quits the game, including call of duty aimbots and wallhacks....heck I might even learn how to do a first person shooter with a gamepad instead of a keyboard / mouse if there's no cheaters on the consoles...I can totally afford an xbox1 or ps4 too...

Point in case is if something looks and seems suspicious it usually is. I have had matches where lag has become intolerable once someone is on the back foot, to the point where I couldn't even move my character.

^ I agree

OP needs to understand that everyone is lagging and not just him. it's just paranoia if you think people are cheating. I went down this road at one point thinking people were cheating, but I investgated and made friends, from there I realized no one is cheating.

Overall, I do realize cheaters exist and that capcom should implement an anti-cheat system, but yeah right, that isnt gonna happen. Just look at the game state of the game and how long has it's been?

The player pool on PC is so limited very few people actually care for cheating. Lag switch can be spotted if the guy is not dropping his combos and the lag is only there when you're on the offensive.

Not being disrespectful in any way but you can only really speak for yourself.

If people want to cheat they will cheat .. even if you think them incapable or unwilling to do so.

Not really. It's rare to have unwieldy and relatively unpopular games have people go through the bother of setting up a cheat, that's why I said "very few people".

Ever heard of kenbot? That thing cheats like there's no tomorrow but you don't see people downloading auto-block hacks because nobody cares to ruin something few people play.

I think you vastly underestimate the will to win of FGC members. Or perhaps are just too trusting of other people.

I would hardly consider SF4 to be an unpopular game .. Well it just seems you completely avoided the main point which was:

"If people want to cheat they will .. even if you think otherwise."

I went halfway through typing that the only people that really care to hack in this would be people who incomprehensibly want to win at all costs. Those are people who legit know how to play but can't take a loss.

but if you do the math you'll see they're a subset of a subset of a subset. They're very few people.

I appreciate the response .. but you cant possibly know the percentage of these subsets without guessing ...
