Keyboard Usage and Ulra Combos
Hi, I'm a new USF4 player, and I've been using a keyboard. I know that they're not exactly the best for fighting games, but to me it seems downright impossible to perform ultras, which in the command list have them explained with joystick models.

For example, with blanka I've tried to do his "Shout Of Earth", but It seems I'm never able to do this in training or fights (When the bar is full) due to the fact that It requires me to do a joystick movement. I've tried to recreate it with WASD but it won't work.

Since I usually lose almost all fights by a single ultra, am I doomed to lose constantly until I get a gamepad or what? Is there a way to modify how you perform certain advanced moves to better fit keyboard users?

Thx

what are you keyboard mappings for movement? I can do the exact ultra with fair ease. maybe you just need practice or so? Keyboard warrior here.

WASD and

Insert-home-pgup
delete-end-pgdn as punches

the special stuff i just have in closeby keys

maybe that's why. Don't use the WASD format. Try having QWE as Left-Down-Right and then spacebar for Up you're going to have to get time to get used to it but it definitely will pay off

Also, IIRC, this is the layout that a Hitbox uses too. So if you eventually want a dedicated controller you can pick up a Hitbox and the transition would be incredibly easy.

There's an "Ultimate" keyboard guide in the guide section still. I've heard it helps.

Just buy a cheap Logitech controller. It costs less than $20 brand new at any retail store...

as he said above use qwe and space.

Q-left
W-down
E-right
Space-jump/up

the move itself is pretty easy to pull of.

hold q+w (all the time.)
press then fast e then e+space+your3kick button.

dont listen to these guys telling you to use a gamepad...when you feel confortable with your
keyboard stick with it.

Keyboard works just fine for fighting games. They are better then using a gamepad. People got to stop insisting a gamepad is required. Analog sticks and directional pads are the worst option. Most people are just way too use to playing on consols to even bother trying to switch.. Probably the same people that insist on gamepad support for a FPS tournament only to see people with a mouse destroy them.

I use arrow keys, Q W E R for punches and A S D F for kicks.

hey ur dat gi frum lodeout

Anyways thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll follow what you've said about changing W to spacebar until I make the eventual transition to a controller or some sort.

You'll generally just have to avoid certain ultras and even entire characters with keyboard-only. The 'double-flash kick' motions as you say are hard with keyboard, as are any 360 motions of course. Luckily all the double-flash kick ultra characters have an easier to do ultra instead, it just limits you a little since it's not always the best ultra to use.

Keyboard isn't bad. Hitbox is essentially the same thing. The difference is you only have the buttons you need and they are more responsive because they are sanwa. That is unless you have a mechanical keyboard.

For the Z movement
Hold back and down > tap forward twice > up > PPP/KKK
(←↓) → → ↑ > PPP/KKK

For back and forward
Hold back tap forward twice > PPP/KKK
(←) → → > PPP/KKK
or
Hold back, shoryuken movement > PPP/KKK
(←) →↓→ > PPP/KKK

As for 720 you need to change the UP to space
But you can do the 360 with a shortcut
Choose an side press the opposite, down them up
→ ← ↓ ↑
← → ↓ ↑

As for keyboard layout:
