Basically you have to have talent to begin with. You can't improve what is not there.
so maybe bruce took it only when he wasn't practicing or actually fighting?
The marijuana probably helped calm his temper, and in any activity whether it's fighting games or sports anger hinders performance. As he himself put it you gotta empty yourself, be "formless" (lol)... well, anger goes against that.
Edit: Something else I forgot to mention, Bruce also suffered a severe back injury which he never fully recovered from, which may also partly explain his marijuana usage to treat the pain.
Even if marijuana helped him somehow, there are better ways to achieve even better results. I recommend that you look into Sport Psychology to find out more about techniques to improve your performance.

Except it doesn't, really. What happens is that you become relaxed and are not distracted by nerves. It allows you to get into your swing more easily.
Unfortunately, swiftly after this, your gameplay goes down the drain as your hand-eye coordination and concentration vanish.
