I highly doubt he was cheating because .... how can I cheat like that exist right?
as they said usually you should be able to just crouch.
edit: which char do you had?
edit2: just test it out right now..on a normal one you can just crouch but on wakeup you cant.
capcom :)
delayed wakeup would have helped to distort his timing. backdash works too (ryu)
I was using fei and adon.
And yeah it was on wake up after being knocked down. The thing is that in ssf4ae if I hold down back before hitting ground, while I was being air grabbed, then I could just keep holding on that position and then his air grab will miss when I would be waking up. If I was just neutral, and then hold down back sometimes I would got grabbed on wake up, and I thought that was an online lag shennanigan.
So really? Theres nothing I can do about it except wake up? delayed wake up is easy to confirm, so he just can wait and then perform the air grab as usual.
you can force yourself back to crouching by waking up with a button
That cant be possible. If that was the case then all the meaty low attacks will connect and the opponent waking wouldnt be able to do anything to stop it. Is just that fu-cking grab.
Nope. He's right, sort of.
He's right about the standing frame on wakeup, but that's not all that's at play here.
Crouching in this game isn't instantaneous. There are actually a few frames during the transition from standing to crouching where you are sort of both standing AND crouching. During that transition, you can still block low as you would expect, but you can also be hit high by attacks that would normally whiff a crouching player (this is how things like blocked j.HK jumpback j.HK with Chun still hits you high if you crouch block after the jump-in, even though if Chun were to do jumpback j.HK against a crouching character it'd normally whiff).
Hakan can time his Oil Dive to grab you during those transitional frames (easiest to do on wakeup, but can also be done against an opponent just standing [ex: blocked j.HK LK Oil Dive or f.LK xx EX Oil DIve]).
Cammy and Guy also have uncrouchable grab setups with their respective command grabs, they're just more specific and see less use.
The way to get around it is to whiff a crouching normal (any crouching normal, even ones that don't low-profile). This causes you to immediately go into the full crouching state and skip the transitional frames from standing to crouching, and since Oil Dive can't grab crouching opponents, it will whiff 100% of the time if done right.
Some setups can also be beat by jumping, backdashing, or using an invincible Reversal, but some setups are made to catch those things, so they're not reliable methods of escaping.
crouching normal
backdash
delayed wakeup
and charackter specific stuff...zangiefs 3p 3k seems to beat it on wakeup all the time.
i think adons rising jaguar should work too but thats something you have to test.
just go to the trainingsroom and find out what beats it.
Go to 10m.20s.
He grabs you during period you wake up and the frame the character does a backflip onto his feet.
Backdash and Delayed Wakeup don't work. Backdash may beat some setups, but not others, and Delayed Wakeup can always be adjusted for simply by holding the button or using a higher strength Oil DIve.
Zangief's Lariat doesn't even remotely beat it. In fact, Gief's ONLY answers to proper Uncrouchable setups are the universal crouching attack and Instant Air U2, and even I've seen the latter whiff.
Adon's Rising Jaguar, again, may beat some setups, but not others. Some setups are specifically made to catch things like invincible DP reversals.
and i could backdash a direkt wakeup airgrab all the time...same with the other things i mentioned.
what kind of setups do you talk about?
a video of the to would be helpfull.
For Gief, there are literally dozens of setups that catch either backdash or lariats, so I'll just list a couple easy ones after Slide->Press: S->P nk.HK LK Oil Dive catches both types of Lariats, S->P nj MK Oil Dive catches backdashes,
For Adon, corner LP SPD wiggle forward nk HK Oil Dive catches LK and HK Rising Jaguar.
