Ultra Street Fighter IV

Ultra Street Fighter IV

Easier Inputs?
I suffer from a congenital muscle wasting disease. Because of this video games are the only "sport" I am capable of competing in. I can hold my own among friends in most games, but the progression of my condition has made pulling off Street Fighter's inputs impossible.

I am capable of playing MK9/Injustice well enough, but they have always struck me as the redheaded stepchild of the fighting game genre, and I actually tend to get a lot of elitist hate for playing them instead of a more "pure, distilled" fighting game like SF.

What kind of options do I have? Are there any mods for the PC version make inputs simpler? Will I need to create macros for every move I cannot perform? Is there any way to accommodate my handicap and still be able to play online? I would really like to be able to enjoy this venerable franchise.

A well-known disabled player called Broly Legs trained himself to play with his face and tongue. It would probably take years to learn to play like that, but as with any play method, practice makes perfect.

I’m sorry to hear you have such a disease, it sounds awful from the stuff I’m reading about it online. I am ignorant as too exactly what limitations you are having but it looks like a nice large fighting stick might help with limited fine motor skills. Also, you may want to main a character that is less combo heavy, characters like Guile and Dhalism for instance are more reactionary focus in non-competitive level play and don’t require ridiculous finger gymnastics to do well.

I can’t speak for you but you just have to find the right set-up to be beastly. I wish you the best of luck.

Unfortunately the only input shortcut I know of is that the DP motion can be simplified to down foward, down foward from the traditional Z motion. I don't know of any mods that simplify inputs but in the end that would be cheating especially if you have a 1 button Demon or a button for a standing 720. I guess you can use macros but that would also be considered cheating. Sorry I can't give you anymore options to play but I hope something works out.

Well this is familiar.

Try Blazblue and play against friends with stylish mode. Or stick with what you can play.

Macro controllers/sticks are out there of course, I'm sure there are super sensative controllers out there aswell. Just like you can get cars with true powersteering/brakes.

Let me clarify: I can perform most specials with about a 65% success rate. As I play my hands quickly wear out and that number drops. Pulling of supers and ultras is out of the question; I've only ever seen them in videos.

There was an "easier inputs" mod for one of the earlier iterations; I was partly fishing to see if there was any news about it being updated for USFIV.

I have an arcade stick, but that doesn't make things any easier. If anything, it makes things harder for me, having never been an arcade kiddie.

I'm aware that I can get some fancy peripherals to setup macros on, but with 44 characters and who knows how many specials/supers/ultras I don't know if I could even fit that many macros. Also, I doubt I could get any of my friends to play with me if I've got macros on my side; I'd probably have to get two peripherals and setup macros for each, which seems like a hefty investment.

I didn't really get any definitive answers out of GameFAQs, so I reposted here.

I think ultradavid (a famous commentator and an old player) has an equal disease like this i'm not 100% sure about it though. Are you playing on a keyboard/pad/stick? I think you should use all of them in order to see which one is more comfortable but the stick is always the better choice for most players.

The definitive answer is 'no', there aren't any easier inputs. In both threads we've all said macros are the only easy options. Depends on how commited you are to the hobby and if you're willing to spend the money on it.

This guy can play WoW afterall...

I guess what you could do is set up a macro button for every special you need to execute. That's arguably cheating, but y'know, if you don't intend to go to tournaments and you aren't hacking, you're probably okay.

Maybe playing on keyboard, or modding your stick to have hitbox style buttons for the directions would make that kind of thing easier I imagine. You could buy a hitbox too if you'd rather not mod your stick.

Is it the same medical condition the Warcraft 3 player Space had?

I dunno what Space suffered from, but I have muscular dystrophy.

@ Dhampir - If my questions annoy or frustrate you in some way, you're free to not respond, or even bother reading them.

You are going to have to go with macros, something like making the analog sticks perform special moves. I would not worry about making a macro for all 44 characters, just the ones that you like to play with.

I suffer SMA type 3 and I'm kinda where you are but at a most advanced stage. My advice would be using voice software to run macros assisting you. Try Voice Activated Commands, has a free trial period. Feel free to add me as a friend if you want to have someone try help you.

even people without limitations can't afford to main 44 characters at a competent level. Stick with one or two and use macros for only them.

If you have a PS3 you should consider BlazBlue... his stylish setup let you perform specials and supers with just a button or simple comands.

I don't know what you are capable of physically so i can i'm unsure if my advice will help you.
Learn 1 character, only 1 as you do not have the luxury of learning multiple characters.
Stick to charge characters as most have solid normal attacks which are only a button press. Their specials are inputted by holding down or back(downback to charge for both) and release by pressing up or forward. Alot of their specials are pretty safe on block also. So with their specials and normals you can actively keep your opponent in check.
Personally i recommend Guile as he has great anti-airs and forward control with his projectiles with minimum excecution. You will almost never use his super and his Ultra's aren't that usefull either, even high level players do not use them alot.

Of the motion characters i suggest Cody as you can still get far with minimum excecution. He doesn't have DP motions, his anti-airs are b.mp and st.hk with soe other situational anti-airs. In the neutral games you mainly use simple button presses and his command normals.

I'm unsure if you are able to cancel special attacks from normal attacks, but they are needed to get any damage with Cody.

His links are simple and easy and do nice damage. His attacks do alot of hitstun so you can be a little slow with some cancels.

This whole story is assuming you can still physically perform these tasks.
I still think charge characters are the way to go.

Best of luck, hope it will work out!
