When it comes to the zoning type, it's all about knowing that a big part of their damage comes from their low fierce. Also, knowing those ranges is important. However, overall, just being patient and waiting for them to have to make some sort of aggression as you can sit back and fireball. Be aware of the sniper (jump back fierce), as you can focus through this quite easily (or even uppercut it if you're fast enough) and get a big punish (ultra, or uppercut).
I play Sagat so it's a bit different but yea. Hope that helps. Any other questions specifically? I find Dhalsim is a hard matchup for Shoto characters anyway but don't be afraid to go the whole 99 seconds.
EDIT: ha, thats funny, the first half of mcgrub's name is censored
- Dhalsim will probably develop an early life advantage. Don't get discouraged by this. Your HP is just currency you will have to pay to get inside the arms. If you have 25% health and he's at full when you finally catch him you still have an excellent shot at winning the match. The absolute worst thing you can do is get bullied the first few times you try to enter and then hang back to shoot fireballs or punch his limbs.
- Learn to keep your defense up while advancing. About halfway across the sceen you get to meet a barrage of fists and legs that can be aimed rather precisely. If you are just walking or focus dashing forward make sure you can react fast enough to crouch block his limbs (you want to crouch block since the knockback is far less and you don't open yourself to a low poke, of which Dhalsim has no less than three decent ones plus a long range sweep). Try not to block his Yoga Fire unless you absolutely have to, the knockback is insane on every version of it but particularly the EX which will sweep you half a screen back even on block. If you want to advance with moves like tatsu just be aware of their hit boxes, namely your feet are extremely punchable.
- Don't crouch while he's in the air. I don't even know why I need to say this but you would not believe the number of people who do this, and not just charge characters. Yes, I can tell you are sitting there hammering the DP motion waiting to press a button but this just rarely works out the way you want it to and Dhalsim's air-to-ground game is amazing. Stay on the lookout for his teleport because he can only do it once per jump. Once he's done it you can immediately use the anti-air of your choice on him almost without risk.
- Watch out with jump ins. Dhalsim's anti-air game is also very strong. His b.HK (the knee of BS as I call it) has a hit box about the size of a large beach ball and comes out very quickly and can stuff most jump ins on its own. If that won't work he also has EX Yoga Blast which starts up in a blazing 5 frames. Not saying jump ins are never the answer. If you're close enough and you have an opportunity while he's punching low go for it.
- Dhalsim can do some things with fireballs and his U1 in particular that no one else can do. You may encounter a situation where he launches an attack and then teleports to the other side of you so you have a projectile coming at you from behind. The proper way to block this is to hold the stick away from Dhalsim (i.e. towards the projectile). He will certainly come at you with a barrage of high low attacks to try and break your guard in the meantime so just focus on that and your character will rotate to block accordingly as if by magic.
Hope this helps.
Most Sims use the Jump, Teleport behind you trick. The second you see them vanish, Jab. Now you have him close and you can pressure the heck out of him.
"Sim doesnt require much thought."
Just a thousand situational normals and moves that have to be picked in a fraction of a second for each specific situation. Remember, Dhalsim is one of those characters that can play perfect the whole match until they get knocked down just to lose it all. I would say you have to include some "thought" in your game if you want to win with him.
wtf am I reading? Dhalsim is probably one of the hardest characters to use, particularly if you try to just autopilot. There are no easy wins with him and one mistake can cost you the match, even against the worst players. He has advantages, sure, but they require careful thought and patience.
Can the two of you read? He is asking about BEATING sim using Ryu. Not winning With sim.
