Ultra Street Fighter IV

Ultra Street Fighter IV

Newcomer looking to get into SF4, have some questions
Hey guys,

So my friend is willing to sell his fightstick to me and I was wondering if I bought USF4 on PC, and I plug this fightstick in, will I be able to play or do I have to get a Ps3/Xbox? Also, is USF4 cross platform, so will I be able to play with people on PS3/Xbox or with only with people on the PC? Last thing, is the game is still populated enough to be able to find a game?

Depends on the stick.
USF4 is not cross platform.
Yes, there are plenty of people to find matches.
Generally sticks work with the PC, there's some old models though that have trouble working on PC.
The game is NOT cross platform, you can only play with people who have the same system that you have.
The game is populated, but the PC version is a piece of ♥♥♥♥ and you can't play online with it, unless Capcom moves their butts and releases a patch (which I would not count on).

Get the game for Xbox 360. Its the only decent version of it at the moment, or don't buy anything from Capcom, they're a terrible company that gives ♥♥♥♥ all about their customers.
Alright, so the PC scene has no multiplayer?
The game is buggy and unless you're in a 1v1 lobby with a friend, everything else lags like hell being basically an unplayable slideshow.

Can't play ranked, can't play open endless lobbies, can't go fight request, can't go quick matches, can't go anything except private lobbies and it's been like that for well over 2 month, with Capcom making promises about a patch, but nothing coming except for a new 15€ expansion and more dlc patches.

Don't get your hopes up that this is going to change anytime soon.
It does... however, there are a bunch of issues right now. Some people claim to be unplayable and others say they can play normally and others say it's the same as consoles. Just don't buy the game expecting it to be smoothly working as you would like.
Alright, so if I just want a PC fighting game with pure multiplayer goodness, what game should I be looking for?
So I understand that USF4 has a buggy multiplayer, but I will still be able to play, but it just be working smoothly?
Skullgirls is a good game with a low player population.
I mean you find matches, but it's hard to find noobs, so you prolly get your butt kicked.

Street Fighter 4 used to be good. You might want to wait and see if they bring a patch or not in the next week.

SF is your best bet if you want to win every now and then and the PC version is the best version of all systems, when it's actually working.
The game has been ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up since its transition to Steamworks though.
Honestly, I think it's impossible to answer that, you might have problems or not.

Which SF are you talking about?

Dunno how Injustice is online on PC.
You might wanna check that out. Pretty beginner friendly game too.
I was thinking about that game too. The games that are running throught my head right now are USF4, Injustice, Skullgirls, and Mortal Kombat.
Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition is what I was referring to.
The game was run through Games For Windows Live until 2 month ago and worked perfectly there, being the best SF4 across all platforms.

Since Microsoft pulled its support from GFWL, Capcom decided to port the game over to Steamworks well over 2 month ago and since then the online portion of the game is a mess.
Capcom said they're working on fixing it, but they didn't and when the expansion Ultra Street Fighter 4 was released, the online portion was still a mess and now they promised again to fix it.

You can buy a lot of costumes for the game though, lol.

Injustice and MK are broken on PC really really bad ports, a lot of people have issues and stuff like FPS dropping to 30 online etc.

Ultra SF might be your best bet, it's the biggest playerbase, and if you play friends in private lobbies it's great. You might want to wait for capcom to patch it if you want ot play ranked and stuff tho.

Skullgirls has the best netcode among all figting games on steam, but the playerbase is kinnda low and don't expect to find a lot of noobs.

KOF 13 has decent netcode, but probably even lower playerbase then skullgirls.
