Well, I apologize for being new at this game, I know it's a crime in 2014. And I still don't know what ''S P D'' stands for. Edit: oh wait, nevermind...
He is not OP. Just learn to play at a safe range. Even if your character does not have a projectile they can still do things like play footsies(in other words poke with normal attacks and be defensive). If your character does have fireballs you can zone Zangeif or any grappler. Of course there shall be times were you get in close but that does not mean you have to play unsafe.
Poke at them from outside their grapple range.
They can't grapple you if you're in the air.
If they're in your face, mashing out a dragon punch type move (or any move with invincibility) often beats their grapple.
Playing against human giefs and hawks, you might want to try and bait them into trying to get in and throw you, smack them on the wrist for it, and run away. Just annoy them into throwing out moves you can punish and repeat.
Granted, Zangief is a difficult fight for characters that can't keep him away, but he's far from op.
I was wondering about that too. So I guess it's pointless to practice against the cpu above medium difficulty?
I wouldn't call it pointless, but you'll start noticing that the AI is pretty braindead as you get better at the game.
The cpu is also stupid. It follows patterns that can be learned and never changes them. It'll eat five and more walk-up uppercuts in a row because that's not a move that can be beaten or reacted to, only predicted or baited out, which are things that the cpu is incapable of doing.
But seriously, all these "I'm terrible at the game, but my fragile mid-brain ego won't allow me to admit that it's my own fault, so instead of improving myself, I'm just going to cry that everyone other than me is a dirty, cheating overpowered meany" threads remind me why I hated playing checkers with my younger brother as a child.
"Stupid king-me cheating noobs, that is so cheap, omuhgawd, nerf the kings!"
