Is there any point in Guile if youre playing super-casual?
Ive been trying to learn how to Guile, figured out the charge mechanic, figured out how to charge them in the fight animation, charge both at once, charge in jumps, etc. I really liked the sound of "you wall like hell and never let the opponent get in to actually fight you" but I cant shake the feeling that Guile just isnt as good as any other character even if you play super defensively. For casuals at least.

Charging both a sonic boom and a flash kick, if I use the sonic boom the opponent will jump it and I now have no flash kick to deal with them. If I wait for them to approach and use the flash kick, theyll block it and punish it. I do like the air heavy kick to crouching heavy kick that gets 3 hits and is really hard to block, but not much else. Comparing this to just Ryu, who also has a projectile... and a dragon punch for air... and other moves on top of that... and none of them require a charge so they can be way less predictable... it feels like Guile requires far more skill to make effective than just playing another character "like you would play Guile".

I went back to playing Ibuki after a rage quit and tried the more defensive approach and was almost unstoppable against my friends, because again, Ibuki has the same kind of special moves as Guile (projectiles have to be done in-air but this hasnt changed anything for me)... but I can do all of her moves without being super obvious for a whole second before every attack.

This is all ignoring the fact I suck, and frequently lose fights as Guile because the flash kick wont come out, despite the sonic boom always working. Its literally the same input, I do not understand that. Especially under pressure, it just stops working for me.

So... what have I missed? I am probably never going to learn the frame data and perfect combos and all that other stuff and neither are my friends. We are only playing with the basic fundamentals and nothing fancy... so is Guile just gonna stay bad without the advanced skills?

Guile is at a base level a good fundamentals character. Even ignoring that, like you said, you're just playing casual, just do whatever you like.

if you're a super casual, i would say that guile is a great pick. He only has 2 special moves and he's pretty easy to play.

The hardest part about guile is defending yourself and knowing when to charge your moves.

guile has
-great normals
-pretty good specials

his weakness are:
-not too good at dealing against pressure
-not great on knockdown (easy to make him lose charge)

If anything I would say guile is a character to pick up just to learn how to fight against other guiles. I play like 20+ characters and I'm a super casual, I learn them so I can either counter the players with my selection of characters or just learn the matchups
