The resolution of the video stream is separate from your physial desktop resolution or the resolution of movies that you play on your desktop screen.
The difference between 1080p and 4K movies in Bigscreen is noticeable on very larger screen sizes (like the big presentation TVs)
Bigscreen shows your desktop at the same resolution/refresh rate as your physical monitors. So if you want to watch a 4K movie, you'll also need a 4K physical display. If you watch a 4K movie in Bigscreen but only have a 1080p physical monitor (for example), you will only see a 1080p desktop in VR as well.
Watching 4K movies on the Vive is not as good as a 4K phsyical display though, since the headset resolution is less than 4K.
Does Nvidia DSR or AMD monitor supersampling to 4k on 1080p monitor display show 4k in Bigscreen VR? What about something like a CompuLab 4k Display Emulator?
