I do wonder why none of the virtual theaters have a balcony section, that would be cool for people who don't like looking up.
The old version of the theater in Bigscreen was also big but it was placed at a better distance IMO, I watched a few movies there, I don't think I would watch a whole movie now in the current theater, which is a shame because everything else about the app is fantastic and better than ever.
Perhaps they could add some kind of slider allowing you to move the screen farther away and lower than it is. I don't know if it's even possible but I'd certainly like it, I don't like how you have to be looking up all the time, it makes my neck tired very quickly, I don't feel that way in a real cinema.
I like how the older theater had levels to it, If you sit in the back you're higher up like a balcony, that's cool and I get your point on that. When I watch stuff in the new theater I'm on my couch; I can lean back and just look up slightly; have you tried that?
I could be wrong, but I think the app already has screen scale. When you change your seat you're actually making the screen bigger and smaller. So it's there but they found a clever way to implement it.
One thing I don't like a about BigScreen is I have to use VLC or some other video player off my PC to watch movies in it... there are so many issues with that for me. I haven't watched any of my movies in BigScreen because of it, I just log into to watch the live streaming stuff. Once in a blue I go into a hosted room and those play good sometimes but most of the time it doesn't. So I think it would be cool if BigScreen created their own media player in the app, but if they don't I don't mind at all. I love their live streaming stuff and can't wait for movie nights.
Yeah, I agree. It would seem that Bigscreen changed the scale of the entire cinema room design when they created the Big/Modern rooms. The original cinema room of BS, had the proper scale, and cinema's like Skybox, CineVR, etc., also have the proper room scale, that places the screen at a proper cinema distance and level appropriate for a cinema room size. But for some reason, BS decided to place the screen too close to the seats, which makes you want to retreat to the furthest seat. It's like they're trying to design the room so that the screen takes up almost your entire visual view while drowning out the rest of the room.
What I don't understand is that numerous people told the BS Team that they wanted the original cinema room back. But instead of recreating one like that or close to it, they went the opposite direction and produced an ugly, cartoonish "Modern" cinema room, with highly reflective walls that are distracting, and it looks nothing like the original cinema room. Both BS cinema rooms look nothing like a real theater. It just seems like the BS Team is refusing to have a proper traditional cinema room and instead, keep producing unrealistic, cartoonish rooms.
With the introduction of the virtual toys (popcorn, soda, etc) plus making the cinema rooms cartoonish and unrealistic, I have to wonder if the BS Team is trying to target Bigscreen VR towards kids more than adults?
Disagree. Skybox is a typical traditional theater size and represents what a real theater looks like at most local theaters, at least where I live. The "Modern" cinema in BS is not like a real Imax theater or like any real theater. The scale is all wrong as well as the looks. Same problem with "Big" cinema room as well. As soon as I entered either BS cinemas, I immediately noticed how wrong the room felt and looked. Something didn't seem right with the dimensions and the screen location is too close for a room that small. If I only wanted a screen shoved up into my face, then I would use The Void or something similar. Some dynamic lighting is good, but BS has it too extreme. The whole room shouldn't go pitch black during a scene to the point you can't see any room details. That's not normal. It's needs to be dialed back a bit.
Anyway, I uninstalled Bigscreen today since it's clear that if you want a realistic theater VR experience, Bigscreen isn't the platform for that. I might check back sometime in the future to see if the BS Team learns what a real theater looks like and implements it in the environments.
If you're happy with the Bigscreen cinema rooms, then fine, but I and some others aren't.
Later.
