What is the legality of streaming movies?
Just installed this game and decided to throw on the musical Hamilton streaming on disney plus I was surprised about 3 strangers sat through the entirety of a 3 hour musical with me. I assume no laws are being broken since it isn't like I am using the media for commercial use and making profit or anything it is more like if I projected a movie on the side of my house and welcomed strangers and neighbors to view the movie free of charge with me at least I hope that is the case.

As laws are different depending on where you live, it's up to each user to make sure they are not breaking any applicable laws. For example, in the US, you can rip a blu-ray you own and watch it in Bigscreen, but in the UK, this would be illegal.

There many be other laws that vary from state to country to province to territory.

It's just basically a video player.....that's like asking if bluray players are legal in the UK.

Your source and how you use that source is what the laws are about.

Same goes for torrents, depends what you do with it.

Thanks for bringing this up. I am quite curious about this app - but I honestly see now legal or "affordable" way to just watch a movie with a few chill strangers.

I cannot actually stream a Bluray that I legally own. I would have to rip it to a digital format first. But - ripping movies from Bluray is, afaik, illegal where I live (not even getting started on actual illegal stuff like torrents).

Watching Amazon prime etc - only works if everyone is signed into the services and not sure if this is even possible if I invite strangers and not do a "watch party" with friends.

And then there are the rentals, which are reasonably priced if it was only that one fee for admission (4,99). But since *every* single person in the room has to rent the film, it becomes laughibly expensive quickly and defeats the purpose of a shared room a bit.

Am I missing anything?
