PLEX and DNLA
I have Plex running on an iMac and can access from all devices in my home except from my Quest. I have DNLA enabled on the server. When I boot BS, and go to Video Player, I get an error saying it can't find/connect to the sever. I see another computer listed from my network but not the Plex server. Thoughts?

Nope. I am betting if I hooked it up to my PC it would work, but I can't except maybe to test the theory.

I just tested it on my PC and while I can see the PC via SMB, I can't see the Plex server (I assume it's supposed to show up with the Plex server name). I now can access the files using SMB on Skybox, however.

As long as you have DLNA enabled, and the server is on the same LAN as the VR device, it should work.

From what you said, it sounds like it should be working, but since it is not, I would double check to make sure that both of those conditions are in fact true. Also make sure you don't have any sort of firewall or security software that might be blocking connections. Also note that some routers given by ISPs actually use a separate network for wireless devices and not the same LAN.

My Plex server is on the computer running VR/Bigscreen and Bigscreen can't find my dlna server, but my gf on lan can see my dlna server just fine.
I also tried doing the local files option since it's on the same computer anyways, but then my gf couldn't watch the streaming movie cuz she didn't have the file on her computer.

saw this.. got my hopes up it actually worked with plex rather than playing from desktop..
I did manage to get it detected. But.. one movie.. no sound.. try to load a different one.. "Loading video" and just hung.. now with this popup I have no access to menus anymore and can't do anything but look around the enviro.. quit and restart BS via steamVR menu.
try to load another video.. "Loading video".....
same thing.. Some videos work, until you try to do literally anything, others just hang..

Plex says the videos being played, but BS just hangs with a blank movie screen and loading video popup blocking all menu access making you need to force quit the program...
TBH, I'd say just stream plex as a full screen desktop app. Because this clearly doesn't work in BS.

Before it comes up.. Netgear router, server is on a dif system, but both systems are wire connection.

If it's running on the same system and can't see it, are you sure you enabled DLNA in the Plex settings? That needs to be enabled first.

In your case, it sounds like your videos may not be using codecs that your VR device can play. We rely on native codec support on the playing device, so what's supported will depending on the operating system of your VR headset.

hmm. in that case, wouldn't it work better to just be able to window capture, not unlike streaming a game or other program in OBS or any other streaming software. Have the app open and then select the window to capture rather than just this screen or that, and an internal player?
OVR does this.

Not being confrontational or anything, sry if it comes that way, I know how forum posts can sometimes be. I'm just genuinely curious :)

Capturing the entire screen and streaming that is an option, and is how Bigscreen originally worked (and still can work) using desktop capture. Just streaming your desktop either via PC VR or using Remote Desktop is how people can watch movies if the local video player doesn't suit your needs. However, desktop streaming does require a Windows 10 PC at this time. Mac support is something on our long term roadmap.

Not screen, the window. As in just the individual program/app. Point it at the program/app and it only shows that.
