Gear Vr not working?
Is the steam version of Bigscreen compatible with the Gear vr device? It runs off of a phone, so I have no way to link it to my computer

Bigscreen currently supports all PC based VR headsets, as well as the Oculus Go and Oculus Quest.

Bigscreen runs on gear vr, it's probably an older version, but I can no longer connect it with updated pc version, so is there any way we can get an older bigscreen version that still supports it? Oculus dropping support for GearVR is just stupid, since so many users still use it.

Well it's still in GearVR Oculus app store: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/gear-vr/1392309124218489 so, idk, it works great, except you can't connect it to PC anymore.

The app for GearVR is only available for download if you previously downloaded it, and is no longer available for new accounts. We don't have older versions of Bigscreen on the PC available for download, and even if we did, that would unfortunately not work anyway as the servers the old version connected to is no longer being used.

This is so annoying! I just purchased a Galaxy S10 up from an S8 as its the last device to be compatible with the Gear VR almost entirely because I could use Big Screen and have the best experience possible. Why have you guys actually done this aside from the throwaway 'no longer supported' post? It works perfectly on the S8 and the little controller is great for navigation - why break compatability with current users just because there wont be future Gear VRs?

Whenever we add new features, such as with the Cinema update which added new environments and the ability to watch movies you can buy tickets for, we need to rebuild the executable. Since we use the latest build of the Oculus SDK to get the performance improvements and fixes that they include, builds made with this won't work on the GearVR.

A larger team might have the manpower to maintain and test two different versions of the build, as well as backport the new features we add, but that would be essentially doubling the work and isn't something we have the resources to do. The alternative would be to not put out any new updates for PC and Oculus Go and Quest, or to withhold performance improvements and bug fixes just to maintain compatibility.

For the best experience possible, we recommend a PC VR headset, or an Oculus Quest.

Thanks for answering my question, I appreciate it. Just to be clear are you guys saying there's no way to just let users still login to the Big Screen App on the Galaxy VR and use the services that worked just fine before the update? I mean I can open the app and see the living room with the little roomba moving around but its stuck on the login screen. I just want to want to watch the awesome TV channels and stream my PC Screen through Big Screen as I did flawlessly before, I understand that you won't be updating it further but surely theres a way to 'lock in' the Gear VR version as at the last supported update and just let users enjoy what works? If I can sit in the living room in the App it surely can't be that hard to let people watch the channels and use the feature set as it existed at the last supported release with say 'greyed out' areas that are not supported?

When we updated the client for Bigscreen Cinema, we also had to update the servers that people logged into to handle all the additional features. These new servers don't work with the older versions of Bigscreen, which is why you get stuck on the login if you try to connect with a mismatched version.

We don't have the resources to maintain an older set of servers just for the GearVR users unfortunately.
