Bigscreen movies out of focus at times
Hi All,
First off I would just like to say, I have been using the oculus for a few months now and Bigscreen is the best app I have for it by some distance!

I've just been having a slight issue, while playing any movie (Blu Ray, 4K, 3d SBS), there is a focusing issue.
For example, if the actors are closer to the camera in the movies, its picture perfect, however, if they are slightly further away they start to go out of focus, even though on my monitor they are perfectly clear.

I have tried virtual desktop but seriously dont like that app so didnt waste much time trying to set it up.
I also tried the free Oculus Home Video/Cinema app and the picture was fine on this (no focusing issues). However the features with this app is lacking!

Just thought I'd post this to see if anyone else was experiencing something similar?

I have gfx 1080 with SS = 2.0 (Changing SS only really made a difference for reading websites etc..)

Hi Mackas. This sounds quite unusual. Are you experiencing this issue when watching a 3D movie?

It might be an IPD issue, check to see if you've setup your Rift's IPD correctly? What's your desktop resolution? 16:9 resolutions work best.

It might also just be an issue with some 3D movies not being done well in 3D? Some are much worse than others. Try watching Mad Max in 3D, that worked very well for me.

Hi PJblue,
Yeah it would be the same during 3d movies, although it wouldnt be as noticeable but this is probably down to the fact its a 3d movie and as shanks has said, some are better than others.
The issue is most noticeable with 2d movies.

I do feel i've adjusted the IPD correctly, everything else is fine, including the environments within Bigscreen. Its specially the movies/tv shows.

Current resolution is at 1920x1080. I've had to increase the the font size etc to 150% to make it readable.

I will try 16:9 and hopefully this sorts things but not sure how this affects the random focus issue while watching something. Fingers crossed!

Cheers to you both, will get back shortly with the results.

Tested on 16:9 resolution but made no difference. tested mad max 3d, some scenes are fantasic but just like the 2d, its blurry when its not supposed to be. i have 3d 4k tv so tested with 3d glasses just to make sure i wasnt going crazy but it only confirmed the issue lol.

I did notice that even starting credits are blurred, very similar to what I am experiencing.when actors are not close to the camera. Weird i know but its the best i can describe it.

typed this using Bigscreen fyi lol, very blurry.

Willing to try any other suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

*Update*
I've just downloaded and ran the oculus tray tool at 2.0 supersampling and reduced SS within bigscreen to 1.0. Any higher within bigscreen started to cause it to shutter, 2.0 SS on both Bigscreen and Tray tool caused it to crash. I also set AA to 2.0x.

I can notice a big improvement :-)

let me know if you can think of anything else but this will definitely fulfill my needs for now.
Thanks!

You're welcome! Glad supersampling helped. Let us know if you have any other issues or feature requests! Leave us a review if you like, and you're welcome to join our Discord server to chat with the community too btw.

Could it be that the l/r or top/bottom are inverted on a SBS or OU 3D movie, respectively? I think there is an invert button to flip flop. Assuming it works the same on Oculus as Vive. @Mackas, you see the button I am talking about? Have you tried it?
