Crash at launch? Can't save? Try these steps!
Hello everyone,

Are you having issues running the game? We've compiled a bunch of information into one post to help resolve issues you might be having:

The game doesn't launch, or you get a black screen

First, try the following. Most of these issues are caused by an incompatible GFWL installation, and following these steps exactly makes sure that all old GFWL files are cleaned out, and a fresh install is in place:

1.) Go to Programs and Features.
2.) Locate and uninstall "Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE" as well as "Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace."
3.) Restart the computer.
4.) Download and install the latest version of the GFWL software from http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/DownloadClient. (Please note that this is for the North American / US installer; you may need to change the "en-US" to your language and region or visit the Xbox.com site for your region depending on where you live.)
5.) Run the game.

If that doesn't quite do it, you may need to change your sound card properties. Please follow the steps outlined below:

For Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1:

1: Right click the Speaker Icon on the lower right side of the Windows Task Bar.
2: Select Playback Devices.
3: Select which playback device to modify (Speakers, Headset), and double click the icon, which then should bring up Properties.
4: Select Advanced, and the option to change to either 16 bit, 44100 Hz or 24 bit, 44100 Hz should be available.
5: After changing the setting, click Apply, then OK.

Windows XP:

1: Press the Start button.
2: Click on Control Panel, Sounds and Audio.
3: Click on Advanced near the Speaker Settings, which will take you to Advanced Audio Properties.
4: Click Performance, and you can change the Sample Conversion Quality between Good/Best.

Some GFWL games may expect game files to be installed on the same drive where Windows is installed.

For example, if your Windows Vista / 7 / 8 installation is installed on the C drive, DR2 (and possibly other GFWL-based games) may expect the game build to be installed under the same drive letter.

Steam, as you may be aware, allows users to manually select the drive (including externally attached drives) during the initial download / installation process. The GFWL client or the game may not recognize this when the user deviates from the default drive letter when installed through Steam.

If you've already installed DR2 on another drive, try moving the entire DR2 folder following the steps below:

Assumptions:
- Windows and Steam client is installed on C drive.
- DR2 installed on a different drive letter (assume D drive in this example)

1) Shut down Steam client (click "Exit" from the Steam menu in th eupper left corner).
2) Go to D:\Steam\SteamApps\ and delete "appmanifest_45770.acf"
3) Copy or Move the entire "Dead Rising 2 Off the Record" folder from "D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\" to "C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\"
4) Start Steam client and sign in with your account.
5) Double-click Dead Rising 2 Off the Record from the Library menu.
6) Install game to its default location ("Install under C:\Steam")
7) Steam client will recognize the build already exists at its designated location and will validate existing files instead of redownloading the game again.
8) Start game and sign into GFWL.

Another possibility is that the ports required for GFWL are not open.

GFWL requires the following ports to be open to function normally:

TCP 3074
UDP 88
UDP 3074

You can use this site[portforward.com] to select your modem or router and get the exact steps needed to make exceptions to open these ports.

The game won't log in to your Games For Windows Live (GFWL) profile, or allow you to save

First off, make sure you have the latest version of GFWL as outlined above. Once it's installed, locate Games For Windows Marketplace on your computer, run it, and sign in with your Live ID once. (This is a one-time deal and doesn't need to be done each and every time you play the game.) After that, run DR2 and sign in with your Live ID.

You get a message saying "Games for Windows - LIVE must verify the release date of your game," but the only option is to close the window.
In some situations, particularly on smaller screens or where the text size has been adjusted, the button to proceed is not actually shown on the window. Simply pressing the Enter (or Return, depending on region) key of your keyboard will take you to the next screen, where you'll need to hit Enter (or Return) one more time. After the initial verification, this screen won't show up again.

Here's what worked for me
Uninstall (if any) games for windows live things you have
I'm fairly sure you need the legacy .NET framework installed. On win 8 hit win+x then F to get to programs and features. Then turn windows features on and off
Check all the .NET framework boxes for 3.5 and 4.5, just to be safe.
I'm not sure where I found the current working GFWL installer, so I just made a shareable link to the one I still have here from when I figured this out for one of the batman archam games
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9rvE1lz9fK-aFFFYUNzMm5tOE0/view?usp=sharing
Install that happy program
If you don't have a xbox live account, make a free one by going to signup.live.com, make an account, then sign in to xbox.com
The game should launch no problem, you'll sign-in and put in the key, It'll need an update, do said update and restart the game.
Sign in one more time
There all better. It looks like a lot of steps but it shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes.
