Dead Rising 2: Off the record windowed mode with Dxwnd
So I was looking to run this game in windowed mode but have found that all the instructions and such were for the games with windows live version and not the new steam only version which needs steam to be running to play.

After stuffing around with DXWnd for a lot longer then I care to admit I seem to have the correct set of instructions for it to run the game windowed from steam.

I grabbed DXWnd from here : https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/

In the white space below file edit tools right click and youll get a menu like this

click add and then in the options screen I kept all the hooks and such default it was just the path and launch the I had to modify

https://imgur.com/a/NnW3I

In path it is the directory for dead rising 2: off the record which for me is:

E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dead Rising 2 Off the Record\deadrising2otr.exe

then in launch because you need to run it through steam the path is which for me is

E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 45770

where the -applaunch number is found inside the dead rising 2: Off the record folder inside the steam_appid.txt

I also ticked do not notify on task switch but that is unneeded as it works without it ticked

I had it set at 800x600 for quick testing and it seemed to work so I am happily playing in windowed mode on the post gfwl version.

Also as with the previous gfwl version your mouse is missing and need to navigate menus using keyboard keys.

This will probably work with original dead rising 2 you just need to replace the applaunch ID

Good luck with windowed mode.

I can't open the steam_appid.dll file or read is at a txt file cos it comes up in gibberish. I can't find the -applaunch number without it

I think you are doing something wrong. You don't need to open that "steam_appid.dll" for this , furthermore this file is not a text file so it's meant to be opened in a hex editor but you don't even need to worry on this.Just leave that file alone.

the -applaunch number is found inside the dead rising 2: Off the record folder inside the steam_appid.txt

So if you go into any dead rising 2 steam game folder it should have a steam_appid.txt file inside that will be the number you put after -applaunch

This is many years old, but I can't seem to find any "steam_appid.txt" file in my game folders. only the .dll version.

sorry for the slow reply, if you look up the game on steamdb the id there is the appid for the game eg for this game https://steamdb.info/app/45770/

45770 is what you are after I think.

i just noticed that this is a OTR post in the original Dead rising 2 discussion... no wonder i couldn't find something like this in the OTR discussion
might be wise to make this a guide or repost it in OTR's discussion?
