to bypass this you need to have another task within those 8 tiles range so the pathfinding will set that spot as origin (and therefore adds another 8 tiles range from that spot).
deconstructing the pump was one awy to ypass the range. sinply using a move task would have the same effect
unless you have a dupe thats ending a task (like moving) in the water thats as far as you can go
Even if it is a huge tank they'll still go everywhere.
