Turn off the pump before emptying/destroying the pipe.
If the valves didn't take up one cubic meter of empty space I might be inclined to install more of them.
I have taken to doing this, but it is a huge pain to do. It would be a nice QoL feature to not need to do this.
I am aware of this, and yes the correct thing to do is to put frequent shutoff valves in your pipeline to make it easier to drain sections of pipe. But does that really add anything to the quality of the game? In the case of something like this I would prefer "convenient" over "realistic".
