Toilets on the frosty planet
On normal planets I usally build a cycle between a liquid filter and the toilets (with an outlet for surplus water / polluted water).
But on the frosty planet I face a problem with that: The polluted water I get is below 0° so filtering it is not an option as it will immediately freeze after it is filtered and will not reach the toilets.

How do you solve this usually? Or do you just keep the outhouses?

You need to heat the water. A Metal Refinery or a Liquid Tepidizer are handy choices.

Hi Draconis, what I did to handle that problem is as follows.

1. Have all the polluted water from toilets/sinks go through a temperature sensor to check its not below a certain temperature, say 30C.
2. If its below 30C, redirect the water to a refinery. Else, continue to water sieve to be cycled back to toilets/sinks.
3. Have refinery reheat cold water and dump back into water loop fed to toilets/sinks.
4. Excess water from loop should be sent to electrolyzers or plants or whatever you want to use it for.
5. Make sure everything is made of insulated pipe.

Between the two, I'd go with the tepidizer - the refinery does produce more heat but it only works if you're smelting.

Use insulated pipes and make sure that all buildings are used. If you set up a nearby electrolyzer box then your bathroom will heat up soon enough.

Thanks a lot.

So it's actually the obvoius one... keep the outhouses until I can build the tepidizer and insulated pipes.... and maybe replace those snow tiles in my bathroom with something that does not melt.

End excess water to oxidizers sounds good. So my little dupes: Pee to breathe :D

Eh, I'm over 250 cycles now and I still haven't got round to plumbing a bathroom yet. I've been running around the whole time with the "No Washroom Built" warning. The only penalty is the odd 1 or 2 dupes that get food poisoning. I really should've created the tablets to cure it, but that building is damn expensive in terms of power.

Almost to the top of my to-do list is an insulated bathroom/shower area. That way I can keep the rooms at ~20°C and not have to worry about the water freezing.

Hmm? The Apothecary draws 240 W, but only while crafting is going on.

Keeping liquid water flowing long-term means your bathroom has to be above ~0 C, even if you insulate the pipes or the entire room from the rest of the environment.

I'm aware, but my dupe labour was stretched thin enough as it was with Manual Generators and everything else. Probably very counterproductive thanks to the stacking up of minor issues caused by Food Poisining, but hey ho.

And that was kinda the point of saying I'd insulate it and raise it to 20°C. How I maintain that is another question, probably just a separate pool of liquid with a Tepidiser that I can pass a loop of water through. That or tapping the volcano above my base.

The low temps of Frosty do an excellent job of killing off germs. If you are getting multiple cases of food poisoning, something is wrong with your bathroom / compost heap layout.

Bold of you to assume I had a layout. It was 4 Outhouses plonked down somewhere reasonably central and convenient.

Also, Food Poisoning dies off below -25°C. The core base isn't cold enough to kill them off, at least, not before they go and eat. At that point its kinda irrelevant.

Is it so bold to deduce the obvious? Anyway, thanks for confirming that your Outhouses were not properly surrounded by Sinks or Wash Basins.

First off, I thought it was obvious that 'bold' statement was extremely tongue-in-cheek.
Second, if it was surrounded by sinks/wash basins, food poisoning wouldn't exist, full stop, so again, I thought it was obvious.

Did anyone suggest you were being subtle...? Of course you are being obvious.

What isn't obvious to me is why you'd not bother to set up a working bathroom layout given 250+ cycles.

Then you clearly don't understand the topic...

Was it a mistake? Probably, but hey ho. I nearly have a properly plumbed toilet/shower/hottub/sauna powered by a volcano, I don't really care to correct it anymore.

Wrong. I understand how to build a working bathroom in ONI just fine.

So your dupes have been suffering from food poisoning for hundreds of cycles because you made a mistake, and you don't really care.
