no one uses the recreation buildings?
my dupes have 2 slots of rec time but they hardly ever seem to use the rec buildings.

my sauna is burning ceramic because no one uses it, they're too busy with the showers right next to it and don't go to the sauna.

same with the jukebot, but at least it's not burning my ceramic >.>

what gives? do I need to have like 60000 downtime slots for my dupes to use the rec buildings? they aren't even doing that much!

They probably do need more time. Two slots of downtime is sufficient for early game, as they don't need to travel that far and only need to eat and relive themselves, but when you're expanding out, they need more time to travel from further distances. Even when I have four slots of downtime, occasionally some still arrive halfway through the sleep block. Also, make sure that your buildings are inside a recreation room, and not just anywhere.

I honestly hardly ever give my dupes more than 2 hours of recreational time.
And don't build too many of those buildings either: mostly because they use up so much energy.
I do however make sure I make all the rooms that increase their moral. And when necessary my corridors become art galleries :steamhappy:
And give them snazzier suits.

well I guess I'll just go back to not building them until klei fixes it like I stopped building tables for the longest time because dupes would literally starve themselves to death carrying food to a table >.>

like why even add these things to the game when they're counter-productive? are they supposed to be a red herring?

so I was watching my dupes a bit and it seems they're using their rec time to go to the washroom?

they have washroom time... what the heck?
In order for them to go to the rest room, they need at least 3, not 2 hours to rest. In this case, almost everyone goes to rest almost always. Moreover, the rest room should not be far from the dining room so that they do not spend a lot of time moving to it.

A shower is a recreation building and dupes will prefer it to Jukebots and Saunas because it gives a higher morale bonus (+3 vs +2).

Also the Shower buff only lasts 0.9 cycles, so they will want to use it every day, as opposed to the other two where it's every 4 days.

It takes 15 seconds to take a shower, 15 seconds to have a dance and 30 seconds to sit in
the sauna.

Each schedule slot is just 25 seconds long, so you need to give your dupes enough downtime to travel to and then do all the things that you want them to do.

In downtime, dupes run on this priority list:-
1. If Bladder > 40%, visit a toilet building.
2. If Calories < 3300 kCal, get food and eat it. (Aim to reach 4000 kCal).
3. Visit one or more recreational buildings.
4. Idle in a Recreation room.
5. Idle at the printing pod.

Note that at standard difficulty, dupes will eat 1000 kcal/cycle, and eat at 50 kcal/s. So they will spend 20 seconds (nearly a whole downtime slot) just chowing down at a mess table.
so what's the point of having a washroom slot?
is it better to just remove it and give them more rec time?

The bathtime slot is more of a work slot than a downtime slot. They will go to the bathroom and shower, but they will go back to work once they finish. I typically place two blocks after sleeping, as I believe they reserve showering for bathtime instead of downtime, giving them more time to do downtime-specific activities and allowing them to get to work once they shower. Putting it before downtime doesn't do much, you'd better off replacing it with downtime.
