Use conveyor loader to remotely store?
Is there a way to use a conveyor loader as a "load point" so the dupes can load items to be taken to storage rather than run the items back to the base? I tried--marking the loader as to allow manual use-- but the dupes keep running all the way back to the base.

Yes, but you need to be more proactive about it. Dupes that have a task that needs an item will run to the nearest place that has an appropriate item, grab it, and take it to where the task is. If you want them to grab from a central area you need to have dupes move the items to the conveyor before they want the item for a task. However, you need to use sweep-only loaders to pick up the stuff, otherwise they'll just go into an infinite loop of carrying stuff from the storage to the loader.
There is another way, though. Instead of having your dupes load stuff into the loader, have autosweepers do it instead. Set up autosweepers wherever stuff is (with manual loading off) and they'll put it into the loader and send it to your base.

I have a kitchen design that includes a walk in freezer, a very small room kept at -10. This room has a dump point for a conveyor where all my food stuffs get dumped. Only my cook is allowed to enter it, but for safety all are allowed to leave it.

Near my farms I have load points that end in the walk in freezer. To prevent an infinite loop the cook is not allowed to enter this part of the base.

Basically the success or failure of my delivery system is about door controls and not the actual shipping system.

I don't know why that didn't occur to me, but wow did it free up a lot of dupe time compared to having dupes run everything back to the base (or even to a conveyor loader like I wanted to do).
