As difficult as Don't Starve?
I've been interested in this game for a while. Honestly though, I find myself to be a bit more casual than in my youth. I still love challenging games (Outward, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, etc) but found Don't Starve to be stupidly unfun because of the difficulty. Any thoughts from those who enjoy this game?

but this game is nothing like don't starve so why would you even compare? Pretty sure a lot of people would tell you that it's not too hard to manage a colony if you have experience

The game has no tutorial, but there are tutorials and videos you can watch and read to understand what you need to do. Good luck))
I played both games 100+ hours and i think ONI is easier. At least it does not require constant attention, the critters are mostly peaceful and your dupes need air and food only. After several hours (maybe 10-50, depending on whether you check guides or try everything yourself) of gameplay that is quite managable. Everything else is optional. However, that is the part where the fun begins.

I guess it is just opinions, but I too have 100+ on both, and I think this one is harder. But, as Big Hat said, this is only because of the management aspect. You won't lose due to an inability to kite at least. It is very fun though, even when you lose it is fun, and I can't recommend it enough.

I'm assuming difficulty similarities because of the same developer.
Oni is a lot easier. Even just the base game of don't starve with deerclops coming in winter is a lot harder. With reign of giants dlc adding 2 more hard seasons so you only have 1 easy one it's even worse. There are things you have to prepare for in don't starve. In oni you can deal with the problems as they appear. In don't starve things can surprise you and kill you, or in combat you can misclick and die. There is no such thing in oni.
Yeah, Don't Starve is harder... some people might say ONI is harder but it's just because it has a steep learning curve. Difficulty with learning game mechanics =/= challenge difficulty.
ONI never needs quick fingers and very rarely demands immediate reaction. Immediate as in pressing pause and issuing new orders. It wont destroy days of progress cause concentration slipped for moment plus should you have several days off it'll let you check base and figure out whats happeening. No punishment for forgetting about tenticle pit, spider den or merm village when next threat falls on you. ONI is very convinient in that regard.

Cant play much Zomboid for those reason. Solid zombie survival game but each sloppy step is lethal and forgetting wheres what - what was looted and where hords waddle... Ouch. Its better with DS but still if i take break from it returning to old save is rather nasty. ONI has non of those troubles.
And it quite easy to adjust the difficulty to point you only have to worry about oxygen, and heat buildup.

There is even the sandbox mode, which let's you build/spawn everything instandly, if just want to relax and build the perfect home for your dups.
You'll end up starting over a lot, as you've run out of some resource you didn't plan far enough ahead for, but I don't really associate that with difficulty. In fact starting over is the most fun part of the game to me. There's no real 'skills' you need to develop in order to progress other than to use your brain and be observant.
