Any good uses for mercury?
Low heat cap.
Stays liquid most of the time.
High thermal conductivity.

What uses are there...?

Once I had nectar, I used that for all my liquid locks. 2 of the nectar trees, 4 spigot seals and 2 mercury lamps has given basically unlimited tallow and supports 3 bammoths at a ranch with the ethanol being used for their feed plants. A vertical ranch would have let me use 1 lamp for multiple plants (will do in the future probably).

Once I run out of mercury, going to have to do a complete redesign but i mean thats in like 2000 more cycles.

One thing I can say, its there is mercury everywhere. Its a very annoying material but that makes for more interesting gameplay.

I made a pond of it and heat it up to 50C to melt ice I drop above it for liquid water :steamhappy:

Other than that ...

Keep it cold enough to be solid and turn it into microchips for your Power Plant.

I also like my water to be liquid. :badluck:

Ah, also ... I use liquid mercury now instead of polluted water as a heat transfer liquid in my pipes.

Anyone try to use it as coolant in metal refinery? The low heat cap means its going to get super hot, which is great for thermal transfer. Would making steel vaporize it?

Does it work well given its low heat cap?
I imagine it would, but how is it?

So far yes, but I did not yet use it extensively. It's just to heat up the living space gradually, like having central heating :steamhappy:

I think the main intended use is to feed Plug Slugs, which have had their livable range dropped down to -100C.

That's a possibility...
But it sucks that they're not in the starting biome... lol

I'd use mercury for the mercury lamp, don;t waste your mercury on plug slugs lol

It has nearly the same SHC as Liquid Tungsten, which sees about an 1800 C rise in temp from making Steel. So if you want to produce a happy fun ball of metal vapor, go for it.

Anything nearby is unlikely to survive.

Right now
1. Its good for liquid locks

2. Mercury Lamp is good and you have plenty of mercury to feed it for a good while.

3. Microchips for Power Plant Station basically build that thing in the mercury Biome where its temps are at -50 so you can easily use the solid mercury for boosting your power before it gets a chance to turn liquid. I actually recommend this especially if you are using a petroleum generator in the early to mid game for power with the ethanol pockets laying around.

Good point, didn't think about liquid locks.

Use mercury to power the lamps to get all Nectar from BonBon trees you can, because it's best coolant/heater liquid till SuperCoolant, which I never crafted in my 1790hours played.

Yeah, I just learned about the mercury lamps for the bonbon trees.
I'm trying to find out what the optimal timer and valve settings are for the best cost-effectiveness of mercury/power to nectar production.

Got any input guys?
