Ah, I was just coming back to report that my set up is actually working.
I didn't know that the docks themselves were being filled and the docks in turn filled the suits. So, quite a lot of oxygen was going to dock, much more than I expected.
After leaving it awhile the docks closest to the fresh air are filling to capacity and the other docks are slowly approaching capacity as well. I've actually set up an overflow system so that when all the docks are eventually filled the excess oxygen will be released into my base.
The answer greatly depends on the following.. What is, and how much flow is your oxygen source? As long as you are making (and pumping) all the oxygen you dupes already need, you should have enough for your docs once they fill up.
Now the docks do hold a fair amount as a buffer so can take some time to fill, but once full the oxygen demand drops significantly and only needs to top off on what the dupes use while wearing when they return.
Nearly all my bases end up being 16-32 docks at one entrance. One full pipe of oxygen can 'support' 10+ docks even if being used at 100% by dupes. I tend to do a piper for every 4-6 docks or so, especially the docks next to the gate as those get used significantly more.
