How do you gain coal on the frosty planet?

I am so used to having hatches that I am now seeing it first time in short supply.

If you dig up or down you may stumble with a hatch. Last resort is your printer.

In the teleporter on the oil planet there are lots of hatches (if you're playing spaced out).

Use wood/ethanol for power instead. Can use wood into carbon for steel. No need for coal.

except if you want ceramic. that's where all my coal went ( got it from what i dug up at Jorges "home" and one of the fossils)

Different scenarios require you to adapt your strategies. In the Frosty planet you are supposed to keep any coal you get for ceramic and not use it for energy.
