Shine bug reactor question - can you feed wild shine bugs to increase reproduction rate?

I get the idea of how to make a shine bug reactor + radiation generator. I keep them all in a 1x1 tile with a liquid lock and door and window tiles.

I get that wild bugs reproduce 1 egg before dying.

But can I just drop in some food in that 1x1 tile to make them reproduce faster?
What's the best way to "seed" these reactors, except for taming/feeding them normally?

EDIT: Also, if I keep them in a 1x1 tile WITHOUT liquid locking it, do they still produce 1 egg before dying? Or do they stop laying any eggs, like pacus?

In order to increase the amount of shinebugs, you not only have to feed them but need a rancher and grooming station so no, food isn't going to increase their amount.
The drop of liquid is there to keep the shinebugs on the same spot while giving them as large of a 'room' as possible ('critters per tile' is the condition that critters check for) so that they keep reproducing.
