Should I play with or without DLC first?

But if you’re just starting out will be a-ways away.

Either way is good. The DLC is a bit more complicated, but if you don't mind some extra mid game complexity you can't go wrong with it. Get ready to restart your first few colonies though, this game has many challenges

Play base game first. Learn the basics before doing the complicated stuff or you might ragequit.

without first. you will prolly restart a couple of times, and if you like the game still, go for the dlc.

Play vanilla. Until you get bored (complete the main mission a few times). Then go to DLC. Because DLC has so much stuff that it would be overwhelming had I gone there first.

I'd play without to begin with-- although I'm not sure it is really easier or merely simpler.

The start is mostly the same but with the DLC the research tree changes a lot.
You can go with the DLC if you've already bought it.

i agree with the one before me, if you have the DLC play with it, if you dont have it play base game
