Trying to start a natural arbor tree farm in the future - do pips plant in only cultivatible soil?
If I ranch pips and get acorn seeds inside a storage bin, that would result eventually in a natural arbor tree farm, right? Does the ground have to be "cultivatible soil"? What soils do pips sow in and not sow in?

EDIT: I see that they can grow on igneous and sedimentary rocks. But can they grow on "salt"? (I am surrounded by beach biomes).

Ground needs to be of low enough Hardness. That's it.
You can also grab a Mod for Pip Plant Overlay that will detail everything to you. Air pressure matters a bit.

You are missing one factor, pips will not plant near other plants. If you just dump some seeds in a room, the pips will cover about half the usable space. The exact mechanics are on the wiki.

The overlay mod includes that, also Arbor trees need space anyway, place some double ladders or horizontal doors to space the arbors evenly as they plant

The short answer is that pips can plant in more than just dirt and clay, but they can't plant in hard material, which includes abyssalite and others. But they should be able to plant in most materials. But limited by other plants proximity.
