What is your favorite gas generator setup?
The gas generator gives carbon dioxide and germy polluted water as output. Carbon dioxide is easy to deal but the germy polluted water carries slime lung germs which is one thing to deal with. The temperature of the liquid also is around 35 C which is another issue. I saw a few setups in which people feed fertilizer synthesizers (FS) to take care of the water. FS however needs dirt and phosphorite to function. This means that you need a good resource of dirt and phosphorite and a couple of dupes to feed the FS (I am not up to automation as I am short of metal). FS gives fertilizer and natural gas as output. The temperature of fertilizer is however 40 C so it cannot be used directly in farms.

The other setup that comes to my mind is to kill the germ in the water in a liquid reservoir disinfection setup and then feed the disinfected polluted water into a Savei. The only problem is the temperature of water which is 40 C. I saw a few setups that take care of cooling water, using Weezewort setup and a combo of Thermo Aquatuner and Steam Turbine. I guess the first setup is feasible since the temperature of the liquid is only 40 and it is easy to take the temperature below 30.

What do you think?

Is the output water actually germy? I don't think gas gens work that way. If the water starts pure it should stay pure, just don't let dupes wander around because they will piss in any open top lake.

Pretty much every ONI machine generates too much heat for farms. Machines and farms should be very deliberately separated in base design and extra heat should be pushed outdoors. Seek out the frost biome early game. It is not only a gigantic ocean(warning: mining the tiles will delete 50% of the water and cold!), but the cold will keep your base safe for hundreds of cycles.

Do not waste effort with boiling water. It's simply too much heat. Germy water can be purified by stacking chlorine with a liquid reservoir(some assembly required), or it can be consumed directly for research/oxygen/reeds(no effort needed). Just don't mix it into your clean water.

Many new player issues arise from not ranching early enough. Ranching is very beginner friendly as the critters require very little maintenance and their numbers will naturally grow with your colony. Pips provide a free source of dirt with wild arbor trees, and dreckos give free phosphorite with lily balm. Good stuff.

=DUDE, MY FAVORITE TYPE IS.................... PETROLEUM GENERATOR RUNNING ON ETHANOL =!!!!!!!!!

=HEHEHE

=AND ALSO............ I'VE NOTICED A VERY STRANGE PATTERN OF PIPS' BEHAVIOR ABUSE WHICH ENABLES THEM TO.......... KIND OF........... PLANT UNLIMITED NUMBER OF PLANTS PER TILE, HEHEHE........................

Pips planting calculates where they are going to plant when they take a seed, and don't properly re-check all conditions when actually planting the seed.

This can be abused to make them plant in illegal tiles, or more importantly to make several Pips plants each a seed in the same tile, resulting in several plants overlapping on the same tile.

=LIKE U'RE MAKING A ROOM FULL OF PIPS, FUUUUUUULLL OF PIPS......... THEN U GIVE THEM SEEDS........... AND LIKE DOOR BETWEEN TILE THEY CAN PLANT, AND SEEDS............ WHICH PERIODICALLY OPEN/CLOSE

=SO EACH TIME DOOR OPENS, PIP WILL PICK UP 1 SEED.......... AND WILL GO TO PLANT IT, BUT WHEN DOOR CLOSES, PIP WILL FORGET ABOUT IT IS HOLDING A SEED OR WAS GOING TO PLANT............... BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...................... WHEN DOOR OPENS, PIP WILL START TO PICK ANOTHER SEED............ BUT THE SEED PIP FORGOT ABOUT IS STILL THERE, SOOOOOOOO WHEN PIP WILL GET TO THAT TILE, IT'LL PLANT TWO PLANTS, AT JUST AT SAME TILE, HEHE

=AND............... UNLIMITED SEEDS, GOT IT?????????????

=SO IT'S POSSIBLE TO CRAMP HUNDREDS OF ARBOR TREES AT SAME TILE SO THEY'LL PROVIDE A LOAD FOR 10Kg/s ETHANOL PIPE WHICH IS ENOUGH TO FEED 5 PETROL GENERATORS, HEHE............ AND GIVING JUST ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF BYPRODUCTS HEHE

=BUT I'VE NEVER TRIED IT SO WILL TRY SOMEHOW AT NEAR FUTURE, HEHEHE

Outputs should only be germy if input gas is germy. And that usually isn't the case.
The easiest way to kill slimelung is cooling the material to below 20℃, though.

Keep in mind that nat gas generators only use 90g gas per second, so their output mass is just as low.

Phosphorite is produced by Dreckos.
Dirt can be produced via growing trees and using lumber in ethanol distillers and the composting. This uses pwater, though, if trees aren't wild.

I don't normally use fertilizer, so I'm not sure if it is worth it.

OK, thanks very much for the information. I was wondering where the germy polluted oxygen comes from! Perhaps I dig some Slime in the gas generator area. As another poster mentioned, the output liquid and gas must be clean if the input gas is clean.

I have two Hatch and one Drecko farm. I was wondering how I could cool 40 C liquid so I can use it in my base.

Thanks for sharing your setup.

OK, thanks for the information. Do you have any setup that could reduce the temperature of clean water from 40 C to something below 30?
MoKuS Oct 1, 2023 @ 12:48pm
Hemmm! It just comes to my mind that I don't need my Mealwood farm anymore as I can feed my dupes with omelets and barbeque that are produced by three ranches, two Hatches, and one Dercko. So I don't need to worry about temperature management anymore as the output of Sieve is 40 C. The only thing that I need to worry about is making sure that the temperature in Dercko farm stays below 30 so my Derckos can feed themselves with Mealwood and this can be achieved by using a couple of Wheezeworts. I just need to insulate my Dercko farm as well. I then can pump the polluted water from the Gas Generator to a Sieve and use the output for my electrolyzer. I can even feed the Sieve with water from the cold steam vent and be sure that the temperature output of water is 40 C anyway.

What do you think?

Sounds good, except for the sieve thing.
Iirc the sieves output temperature shoud be the input temperature.
The 40℃ thing should be massively outdated information and has been changed for the games release (or something like that).

You are correct about Sieve. I just checked and noticed that the packet temperature input and output are the same. Anyway, the temperature of polluted water from the Gas Generator is 40+ C which is not harmful in my base.

Dupes piss out 40C water, which is too hot for farming. This will heat up anything too cold, and cool down anything too hot.
The simplest solution is... don't worry about it. Insulate the bathrooms, keep the heat barricaded away from farms, then destroy the water. Some good water sinks are pincha papper(don't eat them), reeds or arbor trees.

Heat management is a huge metagame challenge in ONI. The early solution is to explore for a frost biome, and steal the cold from there. Wheezewort and the anti entropy nullifier are good enough for wrangling small heat sources like leaky insulation or hot air. Big industrial heat and lava demand steam turbines. Work these things out at your own pace, a frost biome will last long enough to bash out a few lessons on your own.

Early game, I either put the generator in an ice biome or let it run-off in to the oil biome to help pre-cool the oil, which I then separate on the way up and cool in a cooling loop through an ice biome.

You can also use that warm polluted water as coolant for your metal refineries, then collect it as hot as possible in water resevoirs before feeding it in to a steam chamber, where it's cleaned of any germs and made in to pure water.
