Dealing with hot regolith?
I've got a solar setup, based on some other designs I saw on this forum, that looks like this[my.mixtape.moe]. The problem that keeps happening is the regolith is so hot after landing that it damages the auto-sweepers (normally there is one on the left too), which were put in to protect the robo-miners from the exact same fate-- only to later find out that it would kill the auto-sweepers too. As there's no radiative cooling in the game, what are we supposed to do in this situation?

Keep in mind everything that is overheating is already made of steel, and even with its +200 heat tolerance, it's not enough to withstand the hot regolith. Can you build solar panels underground and still have them work as long as you've dug out everything on top of them? I only ask because at least then I could have an atmosphere for some heat transfer. Otherwise, it seems solar panels are almost unusable as things constantly break from overheating.

Well don't I feel dumb now... Thanks!

Objects in the vacuum of space can be cooled if a small amount of gas is vented right next to them. As little as 10 g/s seems to be effective.

I use the vented gas to cool the autominers. It keeps them within operating temp.

The solar panels, telescope and meteor scanner can all be placed under airflow or mesh tile.

I haven't tried it yet, but with widow tiles and drywall its possible to build completely sealed rooms with gas inside and still have light reach the panels. Since widow tiles can also be made diamond and drywall from stone, this should not be that hard.

Edit;: I was thinking about solar panel cooling, for miners a sealed toom its obviously not going to help, since they need clean the regolith outside.

No need to cool the solar panels. The solar panels were changed in a recent patch. They no longer heat up on their own, so if you keep them away from hot regolith they will not get hot.

Also go get some Niobium in space, then make thermium, your autosweepers/diggers will have an 975 overheat temp which doesnt overheat as easily

Yeah, I only just built my first rocket and I don't have any steam to fuel it with yet. The bigger issue now is trying to keep the damn observatory cool. I'll try the trick of venting gas near it.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't see it was front and center in your screenshot. Never knew it could look through airflow tiles, that makes it a LOT easier.
